Beautiful Lakehouse with private dock on Apple Canyon Lake!

The Ho Hum East is a beautiful lake house with private dock on pristine Apple Canyon Lake! The house is named in honor of my grandparents who ran the Ho Hum Motel in Denison, Iowa :)

This is a place to unwind, de-stress, and have some family fun! The house features all brand new mattresses in 3 full bedrooms plus flex space; master bedroom with queen bed, guest bedroom with 1 queen and 1 twin, loft bedroom with 2 queens, pull out couch in living room, and 2 mini couches in the loft that pull out into twin beds. Large open living space that is great for entertaining, HUGE wrap around deck where you can enjoy amazing views of the lake, as well as a large backyard with gas grill.

Lake house charm with all the amenities you need to make a memorable weekend. Private dock is great for swimming or fishing. The house also has a stand up kayak that can be used, as well as fishing poles. Outdoor dining table and 2 fire pits, one by the dock and another closer to the house. This is a private lake so you're unable to bring your own boat, but there is boat rental available through the marina.

Great Lake House
This is a great place to vacation with family and friends. The lakefront landing is gorgeous and had plenty of room for fishing, dining, bonfires, and a dock for all lake activities!

Last minute weekend get away
My family and I decided to have a great weekend get away before our son graduates from high school and embarks on his next stage of Life. The cabin was fantastic, everything was even better than expected. The host was great to communicate with, we look forward to staying there again.

I rented this property for a girls weekend with a few friends. The property is beautiful and the home is cozy and well stocked with everything we needed. We drove to the waterfall nearby, definitely a must see if you stay here.

Overall great property and house!
The house and property were great! The only thing was there was construction going on in the yard by the lake. The property manager was quick to answer our concerns and did refund us for the two hours we couldn’t use the lake access due to the construction. Overall a really great house and property!

Beautiful home on Apple Canyon Lake
The house was in a great spot for us as we have family with a home at Apple Canyon but they couldn’t accommodate all the relatives , we were only 6 minutes away from them so easy to go back and forth. Nice quite part of the lake. The house was well equipped and they had many water toys to use. The girls enjoyed the paddle board . It was nice swimming off the pier . When we were there it was extremely hot and humid and the only complaint would be the bedroom in the loft gets really hot . They did provide fans which helped. They were having landscaping done but it didn’t affect our stay. We enjoyed the beautiful view from the deck. They had a nice information board in the house with everything we needed to know .

We had been at this the previous year and picked this specific property out due to its private dock and lake front since we have small grandchildren. There was no dock and no access to the lake from this property and the owner was unaware of this. He graciously let us use another dock but was not suitable for small children due to large rocks and slippery getting in and out for our grandchildren so very disappointed in that regard. I do not think that $500 per night should be charged since there was no lake access. That was the whole point of renting this specific property....have a dock with a ladder for small children to get in and out.

Pleasant hideout for a snowy winter getaway
Despite the unexpected snowfall, this well-equipped and spacious lake house allowed our two families to spend some great quality time together. The place is clean and has all the comforts of home. We will certainly be back to enjoy some summertime at the lake.

Even better than we expected!
We went as a family and had a wonderful time. The property is loved, clean, and is the first lake house I’ve been to that feels like it’s in the woods. I would definitely stay again. I was pleasantly surprised the house is much bigger than the photos seem. There is a large fireplace that runs through the center of the home and the staircase wraps around it. The tall ceilings made a big difference! Lots of views of the lake… the main star of the show. The 2 main bedrooms were just big enough and well set up. I slept in the loft and as an old lady I was prepared to be uncomfortable. I loved the amount of space and since the main beds are tucked behind the fireplace, it seemed more like a room than I expected. Pro tip. I kept my suitcase downstairs in the giant foyer by the proximity to the bathroom and ease of privacy while changing, etc. The stairs are a little treacherous for kids under 4, I suggest you bring a gate for the basement stairs. There are 2 other staircases down the the greatroom and up to the loft, so my sister in law was glued to her 1 year old the whole time. Be sure to bring all the food and drinks you need ahead of time. Closest story was 20 min away (in the off season/ fall). The dining table extends if you need it. The sofa was very comfy! We had a camp fire, played by the water, and saw deer, turkeys, Etc. It was everything I hoped for!

Beautiful peaceful relaxing
Our stay was very homey! It was everything we needed for a fun, relaxing girls night getaway. The house layout was very cabinish but super spacious and we could all gather around in the kitchen and living areas. The walk down to the lake was breathtaking with the leaves in full autumn colors and the sunset on the water was amazing! It was a 35 minute jaunt outside Galena but I would recommend this place to others and will stay here again!
