Thorpe End Garden Village Thorpe End was developed in the 1930s as a "Garden Village" by Percy and Leonard Howes of the Norwich estate agents Percy Howes and Co, who saw a potential market in the provision of new middle class houses, within easy commuting distance of the city, but in rural surroundings, and bought a site of 90 acres in open country straddling the Plumstead Road. Their brochure offered the ideal home at Thorpe End - house designs were not stipulated, but they had to be designed and built under the supervision of members of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The use of mellow bricks and thatched roofs was encouraged to lend the development an old-world character. The houses were to be built at a density of no more than three to the acre, all gardens having room for a tennis court, a quintessential thirties middle-class aspiration. Although later development has diluted these high ideals, much of the Garden Village has survived. This house, on the north east side of the central green, was occupied by Leonard Howes himself, and is one of the largest and most eleborately picturesque in the development.

"The spa was inviting and the staff very good. Made to feel comfortable and the treatment was great. The pool area was okay and while we did enjoy it we just feel it lacked an intimate atmosphere as was a gym club. Definitely could have done with either drinks service for guests or a bar. However we enjoyed our stay and would go again "

"Overall the room was good, the show needs deep clean but usable. The kettle lead needs being made longer to reach the socket. Blinds and inside the windows could do with cleaning . Overall not bad at all . Staff very friendly, we asked for more tea and milk the lady on reception but them in our room for us great service. "

"At the price I paid for this I honestly wasn't expecting much but my friend and I had 2 rooms (front ground floor) and they were both excellent, clean and comfortable and I honestly could not fault them. I was worried that because of the rooms position it would be noisy, but no I had a great nights sleep. Position size its about10 mins walk from Carrow Road there is a good pub just across the road and also a cafe. The hotel has its own bar and provides breakfast but I didn't get the chance to use either but the bar looked ok and going on my experience of the staff I met I'm sure the breakfasts will be good. Parking:- there is no car park but street parking is free after 4pm till I think 9am. However if you need to park outside these times the hotel provided a parking permit for £5."

"Great staff, and interior is spotless. 100m, 3 minute walk over to Heliport helicopter departure for Offshore Wind assignments in the region. Bus accessible, but not very pedestrian friendly area (almost no amenities in walking distance save one mini grocery store with limited options). I cannot leave overall more than 2-to-3 stars because they do not have a self-service laundry machine available on-site."
