“Great Stay With a True Texas Vibe! We had a wonderful stay at The Lone Ranger RV Park & Lodge in Ranger, Texas. The property was very clean, well-kept, and had a cool vintage atmosphere, especially knowing the original lodge was built in the 1930s. It really adds to the charm of the place. The staff was friendly and helpful, making check-in and our entire visit easy and enjoyable. A bonus highlight of the trip was driving about 10 minutes to Mary’s in Strawn for their famous Chicken Fried……

“The owners have definitely spent a great deal of time renovating. I have previously stayed here and the upgrades are perfect. The floors look fresh and the bathroom is extremely clean and nice looking. I was greeted by the staff worker and instantly felt at home. “I was skeptical when I saw the very high ratings, because it is also the cheapest in the area. We crashed in our drive across Texas, and this place was perfect. Clean sheets, good functioning air conditioner, secure room, very clean minimalist restroom. Someone highly conscientious is running the place, as seen by the caulking, clean corners, and close attention to the small details of maintenance. All other comparably priced places have things such as dirt in corners, stained curtains, moldy……

Thurber, Texas - population about 10 - is considered to be Texas' premier ghost town. Here's why: barely 100 years ago, Thurber used to have 9,000 residents. Today, it's merely a pit stop on Interstate 20. Thurber began as a company-owned town. The Texas and Pacific railroad owned the mineral rights to the vast (and only) bituminous coal deposits in Texas, and lured thousands of skilled coal miners from the north and from Europe to get it out. Setting up a small settlement ringed by tree-covered hilltops, Thurber, which was named after one of the majority shareholders in the company, quickly grew as businesses set up shop.
