The Captain Stannard house is a true gem in Westbrook. There are many restaurants, shops, parks, and beaches close by. The property has a private yard and a large rear porch for relaxation. My room was impeccably clean and spacious for being the smallest one in the house. Dianne was incredibly sweet and went out of her way to help all the guests.

friendly staff and welcome on arrival, tastefully decorated. comfortable and relaxed. Breakfast could be improved, A place of this caliber, I would expect fresh bread and toast, sweet butter, eggs to order, rather than the packaged food service microwave prepared hash browns, sausage slice and packaged mini quiche tarts. The caned tangerine accented with mint was refreshing. good coffee.

On a country road only a 5-minute drive from the fascinating town of Essex on the mouth of the Connecticut River, this is a traditional, handsome setting with excellent service and food.
We stayed in one of the newer outer buildings, and our room was spacious and nicely updated. Service was outstanding. Outer buildings an ADA challenge but not the older central inn.

We had a great stay.
I had read the property reviews before arriving. They weren’t great, so I was a bit worried. All in all, though, we did not find any concerns. Updates would be a bonus for sure. The lobby did have a musty smell, but nowhere else that we went in the building. The breakfast was easy and good. Our room was very clean and comfortable.

What a delightful surprise to have found such a very comfortable room - fresh sheets and towels each day ... hot, hot water in the shower ... stationary and pens on the desk ... a walk-in closet with an ironing board and iron ... a refrigerator ... a desk and a table - perfect for the laptop ... good sized flat-screen TV ... wi-fi ... courteous management and help ... across the street from a fine shopping mall and grocery store ... all kinds of restaurants on the nearby main road ... the...

The price and proximity to the highway are great but the rooms are very basic and minimal but if you only plan on staying a night or two and just need a place to sleep this place can accommodate.

Everything was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative was that we did not receive a new tissue box in the bathroom a couple of days in a row.
