Jaw-dropping beaches sit in the shadow of red cliffs in this North Goa village. Bathe in the sunshine, try watersports and attend late-night parties.

Backpackers, bohemians, party lovers and Indian vacationers descend upon the vibrant coastal village of Vagator. With a natural landscape of red sand cliffs, green hillsides and tall palm trees, it boasts one of North Goa’s most eye-catching settings. Find seaside nirvana at Vagator’s beaches, have fun in the water and marvel at the sunset views from lookouts.

The rock-strewn golden sands of Vagator Beach form the longest and most northerly of the resort’s beaches. Set up camp in a quiet corner or rent a sun lounger outside one of the food shacks, which serve the day’s catch and Goan fare. Top up your tan, enjoy long walks and look for fish in rock pools. Jet ski rentals, parasailing, dolphin tours and water sled rides offer adventure for the active beachgoer.

Across a headland to the south is Ozran Beach, where music flows from seafront bars. Bask in the tropical setting while sipping on cold beers, healthy juices or milkshakes. Take a dip in the natural freshwater springs and study the interesting Shiva’s Face Rock carving. The village gets crowded late in the afternoon for sunset viewing from the beachside and at Hill View Vagator Anjuna.

For a quieter scene, join fishermen and peaceful types at Chapora Beach. Watch as colorful boats drift into the harbor and bargain for fish straight off the boat. Stroll through the village and up a natural trail to the remains of hilltop Chapora Fortress. Erected by the Portuguese in 1617, today it is popular for its panoramic views.

Experience the atmosphere of Goa’s world-famous dance parties. DJs spin house, techno and trance music at nightclubs with open-air dance floors and chill-out areas.

Vagator is about a 90-minute drive from Goa International Airport. Taxis and car and scooter rentals are all available at the airport. Book accommodation in advance if visiting during the peak months of December and January.

Probably the best beachfront area in India. Of course outside the W in Goa the cleanliness is like everywhere else in India but its well outside the center of Goa so it is quiet and peaceful which isnt easy to find in India. Not overly crowded with

It’s very far from the airport, takes 2-2 hours to get there by cab. The Brekkie are delightful, BUT they need s much larger coffee maker in the morning.
