Lovely hotel in a perfect location but spoiled by poor dining room - out of character with the rest of the hotel. Cooked breakfast was good but the rest lacked choice. Faulty TV reported twice but never fixed.

The front desk staff first gave us an isolated room in the basement, which made us feel unsafe due to noise from the staff next door. We requested a different room and were then given one in the attic, requiring us to carry heavy luggage up two narrow flights of stairs. Despite this inconvenience, we accepted the room. However, when we returned from dinner, we found that none of the wall sockets worked, leaving all our devices out of batteries. After asking for assistance, we were reassigned to another room in a separate building, where the situation improved slightly but the toilet's flush didn't work properly. It took us until 9:30 pm to finally settle in, after arriving at the hotel before 6 pm. Throughout this ordeal, the staff's attitude was rude, and they never apologized for the inconvenience. This experience greatly affected our emotions, and we strongly advise against choosing this hotel. (I've noticed that due to my Asian appearance, the staff always assigns me rooms in bad locations. This treatment makes me feel that this hotel is being biased and unfair.)

El hotel es muy bonito y tiene estacionamiento (pagado extra) lo cual es conveniente. Puedes caminar a cualquier atracción turística de York. Nos hospedamos en una habitación del segundo piso muy linda y decidimos quedarnos una noche más y el staff nos ayudó a conservar la habitación haciendo la reserva vía expedía. El desayuno es buffet basado en desayuno inglés y continental. Nuestra habitación era Garden Suite con un gran espacio y baño muy grande. Cuando llegamos reportamos que el WC estaba con una fuga y fue rápidamente atendido y solucionado. Si regreso a York probablemente buscaría quedarme en este mismo hotel.

The upgrade was of poor standard, television only worked sometimes, had to call for maintenance, heating in the room was a portable heater. Workman doing refurbishment on air conditioning, one of the lifts only worked sometimes, queuing for breakfasts, breakfasts very average, overall We will not recommend this hotel .

Very spacious, beautiful hotel and property. The staff was very nice. Only complaint was the bed stiff. They have fans if needed and you can open the windows if needed. Close to everything in town. Super convenient from the train station. I would stay here again. Loved it.

This hotel has issues which need addressing. Check in - no mention of WiFi or other features or services provided in the hotel. No mention of the works going on in the hotel. Get to our room and find a sign next to the door saying ‘Please be aware of construction site.’ Into the room and it was like an oven. Go to turn the air con on, it’s not working. Go and speak to the same receptionist who said that there was no air con and to open a window! That didn’t help. Went out for dinner and drinks and came back to the room and it was still like an oven. Tried to sleep with the recommended windows opened and there was no air and the York night life coming through the window. I went to speak to reception and I asked whether any of the rooms had air con. None of the rooms have had any for months! They have had to turn it off whilst they upgrade the system. No offer of a fan or any resolution or apology. I ask for a fan and begrudgingly she agreed to arrange for one to be sent by the night shift. This moved warm air around a warm and nothing more. I would not recommend booking a summer stay in this hotel as if there is a warm period then you are not going to enjoy your stay. There are many other issues in the hotel from holes in the ceiling, staff who could not be any less interested in being in the job they are paid to do and poor food quality for breakfast with bone fragments in the sausages. I understand that you can have issues at a hotel but you took the biscuit!

Very modernized and updated, which makes the experience more enjoyable. Clean, relatively quiet for a center city hotel, spacious room, nice bathroom. They provide a fan in the room if you like having white noise when you sleep. No AC though they have windows that crack open. Only negative was the fire alarm went off for about a minute but went off as we were scrambling to leave the room. Asked front desk about it and his only answer was “we cannot disclose”. Ok well that sounds like a cover-up of something. Overall a great place to stay.

It is a beautiful building in a historic city. Just like other cities with long history, the wheelchair accessibility can do better. Our room was upgraded. There are 7 steps of stairs from the lift. Just a bit inconvenient for us to carry luggages. It is a beautiful room in a beautiful building at the best location.

My room was appalling, air conditioning when on was leaking water so had to turn off, was really warm but couldn’t open the window as there was a constant whiting noise outside and due to location of room had to have curtains permanently closed. Despite reporting nothing done! Bathroom and room stunk of sewerage from the bathroom and on 2 occasions the key sopped working!
