The property is conveniently located on the isthmus in Madison, close to important historical landmarks and great dining options. The hotel itself was quaint and quirky, which was expected. Harbor was fine. What was unexpected was the fact that the lake view room (for which we paid extra to have a lake view) was also 50 feet from train tracks, on which trains came at least 3 times daily… including at 3:30 and 6:30 am. I feel like that should have been stated by the hotel up front because that sort of disruption is a deal breaker for many. If I were to stay at this hotel again, I would definitely choose a different room because of this issue.
An additional issue is that the AC unit, which was placed above the clothes closet, dripped water onto the carpet below, creating an increasingly large area of dampness. My partner’s shoes and backpack got wet from being on the floor in this area before we realized the problem. It wasn’t an “end of the world” problem as we were leaving the day after we noticed it, but the wetness could have caused damage if we’d had other bags in that spot. Also, it felt kind of gross to have to walk on damp carpet to get to/from the bathroom. I did let the innkeeper know so that it could be addressed before the next guest arrived.
