Our room smelled like garlic and wet towels. The hallways did not have ac and felt damp and stuffy. The room looked like it was frozen in time with the interior of an 1980s motel. The bed was hard and old.
The building was in some weird water restriction schedule where there were 3 times a day without water. The power went out downstairs for a few hours two of the days we stayed. So the coffee shop downstairs could not serve anything. It was desolate and quite inside, which was shocking on labor day weekend. Our view from the balcony was over what was "the pool and hot tub" which is now a busted up pile of rubble out back. We were very disappointed. We did not get what we thought we were booking. It was as bad as the stupid commercials where people end up unhappy with their booking in a swamp. The only nice thing about the place was the beach access (BUT, thats literally any hotel on the beach, especially in Isla Verde).
