Room Condition

There had been high humidity in the area for several days prior to our stay. The AC was not on in the room so the carpet and bedding were damp feeling. Everything was clean, but it would have been a better stay is the AC in rooms that were reserved had been to help keep the humidity down in the room.

Terrible Experience

Location: Just outside of town. Brainerd is a great city to enjoy the outdoors.
I reserved three rooms, they only had two rooms available for me and then gave me a handicapped room as the 3rd room when I showed my reservation details. Claims to be a "non-smoking" hotel but all rooms have an unbearable smoke smell. Can't take your shoes off because your feet stick to the carpet in the rooms. No toilet paper or kleenex in my room and the toilet was broken. I left my pillow on the bed and returned to a note from housekeeping, "due to personal items on the bed, we were unable to make it up for you." The second night they didn't even bother to clean any of our three rooms. Front desk was never attended. There was always a sign to call a number if help was needed. Almost no breakfast and no plastic ware. You had to eat with your hands. My door wouldn't latch and when I complained they told me to just lift up and slam it shut. I had to keep my stuff in my car when I wasn't in the room for fear it would be stolen. I stay in hotels about 35 nights per year and this is the worst managed property I have ever seen. The America's Best Value chain should be embarrassed to have their name attached to this property. The sign at the front desk claims this property has been rated Outstanding and "Best of the Best". If that is true I can't even imagine what would be rated lower.

Disappointed stay up north

Since when did $100 a night get you squat for a hotel room?!? The rooms were outdated, breakfast was poor, and the service left a lot to be desired. We reserved this hotel to save money on attending a cousin's wedding. My boyfriend and I decided that we'll never skimp on a room again because of the experience we had at this hotel.

Trash in room, one light was out, one outlet didn't work, remote missing, and had to make repeated calls to get someone to help. Over priced, poor service, and dingy room.

Awful. Stay away.

First issue: I booked and paid for a king. I called the day ahead to confirm. When I checked in, they had no kings left and offered no solution. I asked for a discount and got $3 off. Second issue: check in was disorganized and took a long time. Third issue: desk clerk was in stocking feet. Unprofessional. I saw her smoking right outside the front door of the non smoking hotel later that night still in stocking feet. Fourth issue: first room I checked into had paper and trash on the floor and the comforter was askew. The toilet seat was the wrong size for the toilet. I asked for a different room. Fifth issue: new room had clearly been a smoking room for many years. I went downstairs again, but clerk was busy checking in a sports team and I figured it was hopeless. This room had rubber band and pieces of plastic on the floor, dust on the TV, caulk on the sink surface, the window was missing the entire side so didn't shut all the way and wouldn't lock, there were cigarette burns on the furniture and tub, there were splashes of dark brown on the back of the bathroom door, had half a roll of toilet paper and no extra, one washcloth, and reeked of smoke. There were no other hotels available in 20 miles. So I bought new sheets and pillows, a can of commercial disinfectant spray, and febreeze and tried to make the best of it. I could go on but I won't. Stay somewhere else. Or camp.

The stay was OK

Pros: Price seemed reasonable compared to others in the area.
Cons: New mattresses.
Location: We were entertained at the local lakes, antique stores, and shopping was nice.
The facility was clean enough, it just seemed some what worn. Room door did not open and close easily, beds were worn, no towels in the room; however, the shower had excellent pressure.

Overpriced - Lack of Quality

I only saw one worker during the entire stay. The room was clean but did not have the amenities most hotels have (shampoo, conditioner, ice bucket, 4 towels). Breakfast was good but when I went to eat at 8 am the garbages were full and all of the tables were messy. For the amount I paid I would have rather stayed somewhere else.
