Decent Hotel for DakarPosted Apr 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel is located downtown not far from the port, markets, and other attractions. From the outside it looks a bit daunting, and the lobby is just a counter and two chairs. However, the room was large and comfortable with a mini-bar and safe and good facilities and hot water. The a/c worked well but periodically let out a terrible noise. A knowledge of French is helpful at this hotel. The hotel restaurant is a very nice Lebanese one across the street, but is a bit pricey, but obviously very popular with both visitors and local ex-pat types. The hotel's credit card machine was "broken" so I had to pay cash, and they were very strict that the rate of exchange was not 500 but was 490. They declined to give me a modest amount of change when I rounded up. When entering and exiting the hotel one is approached by locals selling something, but that is true throughout Dakar. I was cheated badly by the taxi driver taking me to the hotel, but that is normal in Dakar too. Overall, it is a decent budget hotel for an advanced tourist used to travelling in third world cities. I suggest that the average American or European tourist might feel more comfortable in a slightly more upscale hotel with more support facilities rather than this hotel which seemed to cater to business travelers.

A Restful Night in DakarPosted Oct 31, 2012 on Hotels.com
The reception and housekeeping staff at Hotel Farid were extremely accommodating. If you can love beyond the peeling paint on the wall, you will love the coziness of a small hotel in the center of town. Everything of use was located within a short walk or taxi ride from the hotel. The security is very good and and the security is excellent. It was wonderful, also to find a hotel in Dakar that accepts credit card payments for one's stay. Louis, the housekeeper, deserves special mention for his attention to detail when servicing our room. We will definitely return to this hotel during future visits to Dakar.

Friendly low cost business hotel in DakarPosted Sep 11, 2012 on Hotels.com
With not speaking fluent French. I was anticipating having difficulty communicating, but that was not to be the case. Most of the staff had a good understanding and could speak acceptable English. The hotel was quiet, very clean and close to local ammienities. The restaurant had a lovely ambience and excellent food, also serving large portions. Certainly a little gem in the oasis of Dakar.

Farid Hotel - a very good bargainPosted Apr 5, 2012 on Hotels.com
We had a very nice stay here. The room was comfortable. Hot water took a very long time to arrive at the tap but was plentiful when it did. Toiletries are basic, but provided and there was a well stocked minibar. Our room had a little balcony with a view into a pretty garden. The staff were helpful and polite and we were able to leave our luggage all day until our late flight. They got us a taxi and were helpful telling us the right price to pay for taxis - an important thing in Dakar. The restaurant which is opposite has really lovely Lebanese food and large portions. The terrace inside is secluded from the road and very peaceful after the bustle of Dakar. The prices for the rooms were very reasonable.
