Location: Right by MSU.
I liked how it had two levels and a bathroom and bed on each. It was an enjoyable stay.

In need of capital expenditures

Posted Mar 27, 2015
Pros: It is a convenient location if you need to be in East Lansing
Cons: Spend some money on the facilities.
Location: Close to East Lansing.
It was likely a nice place once. Looks like an old Marriott Residence Inn. However, the rooms were dated, to say the least, and the conditions poor. The rooms smelled of prior inhabitants' cooking, the bed was bowed in the middle like a hammock, and multiple wallpaper sections/ceiling tiles were falling off. In the clubhouse (where you check in), the bathrooms were dirtier than your average gas station.

We'll never stay anyplace else in Lansing, MI!

Posted Mar 26, 2015
Pros: Absolutely everything!
Cons: microwave
Location: State Capitol, Michigan State University, night clubs, restaurants, parks....it's all there
This hotel was clean, quiet, inexpensive and easily accessible. The staff were courteous, helpful and appreciative. We were shocked when we opened the door to not only a hotel room, but a couch, desk, and FULLY stocked (utensils/dishes/etc) kitchen! Unlike most hotels, the Gatehouse also offers an outside picnic area complete with grill right next to the river and outdoor pool. Practically half the cost of Holiday Inn Express, the Gatehouse also offers a continental breakfast! And organic shampoo, conditioner and lotion. This country-bumpkin will no longer fret about visiting our capitol again!! Thank you for a delightful experience!

Good location - dated property

Posted Mar 23, 2015
Pros: Location - nice layout - convenient kitchen.
Cons: Remodel - fix or remove fireplace, fix wallpaper, curtains are ancient. It just needs a do-over.
Location: Nice, right next to MSU, lots of food venues and shopping near.
Very dated property. Wallpaper peeling in the bathrooms, some mildew. There was a terrible draft coming through the fireplace and the glass doors all but fell off upon investigating the cause. Bed was just okay - a little lumpy. Could be very nice with some remodeling.

No compassion - Did not understand the predicament

Posted Mar 10, 2015
Pros: Could not say since we did not stay.
Cons: A no cancellation reservation will deter online options for making future reservations this way. It will be worth making direct contact with hotel.
We stayed at another hotel the previous night, in which I became ill with the flu. Instead of staying the next night at Gatehouse Suites, East Lansing, my wife and I decided it was best to shorten our planned trip and drive home. Avoid exposing others to the illness. My wife called (not 24 hours in advance) however early the day of checking-in and asked for a cancellation or at least a voucher, since we still need to make the same trip in the immediate future. The receptionist was blunt and had no alternate to charge the full price for not checking in later that day. She said she could do nothing since it was an online reservation and the credit charge would have gone through.

Coldest Night in a Hotel Ever

Posted Mar 7, 2015
Pros: Nothing made up for the temperature of the room.
Location: Does it matter? You could probably freeze to death in your room...
There was a fireplace in my room that might as well have been an open window. In sub-freezing temperatures, cold air blew in through the chimney and created a "sea" of cold air in the room from about the knee down - I checked the flue and made sure the doors to the fireplace were well-closed. I also turned the heat up as high as it could go. Despite all this, there was still at least a 20 degree difference between the temperature of the air at chest height and the temperature of the air 18 inches above the ground. It was, by far, the least enjoyable stay in a hotel I have ever had. I never felt warm, despite wearing thermal pants underneath normal pants, with multiple pairs of socks, thermal shirt, normal shirt, hoodie, and shoes. I couldn't feel my feet because they were so cold. I would never recommend this hotel to a enemy, let alone a friend. I've had more comfortable nights in $12/night hostels.

This hotel was a wonderful place to stay. Good hot water, and plenty of space in the suite for our family's needs!

Not worth the money

Posted Mar 1, 2015
The hotel is old and not a good value. The shower had peeling paint on the ceiling, looks like mold, and the heat ran all night and never got the room to 70 degrees. The floor wasnt clean. The breakfast was poor and the room smelled awful.

Two Bedroom Suite

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Plenty of room and location to MSU.
Cons: Parking was somewhat limited.
Location: Good location, seemed safe and near to shopping mall.
Room was clean, staff was friendly, breakfast was good, close to the university. I would stay here again.
