Decent Hotel

Posted Aug 17, 2014
Pros: The hotel staff was nice. It was relatively inexpensive.
Cons: The facilities were old and it looked like it. It looks like it hadn't been updated in many years.
Location: Not very much.
The staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was "dorm" room like. The walls were in definite need of painting. There was no restaurant on site and there wasn't much in the vending machines to choose from. The hotel is in definite need of "upgrades." If you just a need a place to sleep, this is fine. I would stay there again because of the price, but I most likely would not go there if I brought family along.

Horrible experience.

Hotel is dirty and elevators smell. No restaurant, bar or store. Decent location in Hilo but will never stay at Naniloa hotel ever again.

Nice ocean view room

Posted Aug 13, 2014
It took 30 minutes in line for check in, due to one single agent on duty. No WiFi in the room, available only at the reception area. Hotel is very old, the elevator is kind of scary, but rooms are remodeled and clean. By the way, do not count on room TV. (I guess nobody goes to Hawaii for watching TV or using WiFi anyway).

Pleasantly surprised

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Given the reviews for Hilo hotels in general we were pleasantly surprised with this one. We got upgraded to an ocean corner suite which was just renovated. The room was clean, spacious and the views amazing. The staff was also very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. The reception and lounge area were outdated, but still offered great views. Great location in between Mauna Kea observatory and Volcano National Park.

Aloha Dan, Mahalo for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed our suite. You'll be even happier to know that we have not yet renovated that room, as that was the previous renovation, but we will be making it even suite-er! (pardon the play on words) I certainly hope your travels return you to Hilo soon so that you can see the transformation that's about to take place. Mahalo, Kalei Lyman, Hotel Manager

Pros: Cheap price for base camp to visit to visit other places.
Cons: Need to renovation of the whole hotel. Clean the pool!
Location: Convenience location to start to visit great places in Hawaii..
Big Island is great to visit. Hilo has a lot of rains, but can ride away from it.

Old and in need of renovation.

Posted Aug 8, 2014
Pros: the location of this hotel is great!
Cons: It needs updated and renovated before it's worth the $$$.
It should be a much better hotel considering the price. The grounds are run down and the hotel looks old and unkept.

Aloha mike, Thanks for your comment. The hotel is in need of renovation, and we've been busy preparing for it for months. New guest rooms, a new lobby with lobby bar, and a new restaurant are soon to replace the current spaces. We invite you to check out a new Naniloa soon! Mahalo, Kalei Lyman Hotel manager

Just needed a place for one night near the airport. This hotel was perfect for that and nothing more.

Beautiful Views

Posted Jul 31, 2014
Pros: I loved the wonderful views and how friendly the hotel staff was.
Cons: Having wifi in rooms and not just in the lobby. Also having phones in the rooms and a microwave.
So at first glance this hotel looks pretty scary. The outside looks very run down and is not pleasing to the eye at all. I had a sinking feeling in my gut as I walked to the front desk to check in. My instincts were telling me to run and never look back, however I had already paid for the hotel room so running was not an option. So I checked in and they gave me a key, not a card like most hotels but a key. Which might I add I thought was quite strange. As I turned the key in my hotel door(room 427) I was taken by surprise. I thought they room was absolutely beautiful! It had huge windows that you could open up to the outside. The windows also had a partial view of the ocean, which might I add was amazing seeing as how I did not pay extra for an ocean view room. It also had a desk, computer chair, refrigerator, two full size beds and air conditioning. The bathroom was also beautiful it was all tile with and all tile shower as well. My shower curtain did look a little dingy but I think It was stained and not actually dirty. Also the room could use a fresh coat of paint other than that I had a great experience with the hotel and was quite surprised. The staff was incredibly friendly and the hotel is right on the ocean with beautiful views and is close to downtown Hilo. There is a swimming pool but it looked kind of dirty and I did not use it because why would you want to swim in a pool when you have the whole ocean!!? Also there are no phones in the rooms or microwaves.

Aloha Jessica, Thanks for taking the time to review our property. We agree that the hotel currently lacks curb appeal, and are glad that you liked your room. You will be pleased to know that a full exterior paint job is included in our upcoming renovation plans. We also plan on renovating and revitalizing the lobby, restaurant, and meeting spaces in addition to the rooms. Expect a different property if you come back to visit us again! Nice hotel on Hilo Bay!

Posted Jul 31, 2014
Pros: The location is great. Free parking. Easy to get in and out of. There is a large park down the street with swimming and fishing.
Cons: Wi-Fi in the rooms. I don't have any devices that I travel with that can access hard wired internet.
Location: A beautiful location right on Hilo Bay. Great poke at Suisun right down the street. Large park with swimming and fishing within walking distance.
I stayed at the Hilo Naniloa for 10 days. I found the staff to be great, always willing to help. The room I was in had not yet been remodeled, but my son and I found that it fit our needs perfectly. The only thing I missed was wi-fi in the room. They have it in the lobby but our room only had hard-wired internet. No big deal that's why I pay for data on my phone! This place looks like it was a 4 star hotel when it was new, but the climate and time have been hard on it. I am glad that it has new owners that are willing to bring it back to it's once luxurious state. I can imagine Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin playing this place in the sixties! Our room was clean, close to the elevator and had a great view.

So dirty

Posted Jul 30, 2014
For our first two nights we requested a king size bed but when we arrived we got two beds instead, even indicating we were on our honeymoon. Not nice. The worst was when we saw the room. Sticky floors, dust and hairs on the floor and in the restroom, dirty sheets, dirty window, broken restroom door.... As if they hadn't cleaned. My husband complained and they came quickly to clean the restroom, but not the room. We were disgusted with the room. Days later we stayed there for one extra night (cancelling was not an option). The room, this time with king bed,was newer and clean, though. Very convenient location, close to the airport.
