“Great fun with Old Hawaii style”

The front desk staff was exceptional at Uncle Billy's Hilo Bay Hotel! They smile when you meet eyes, they are helpful with things OTHER than hotel stuff. The grounds are very nicely decorated with Jananese style gardens, including koi. The only part of the hotel that was lacking was fresh paint--big friggen deal. Everything else was fabulous, and it was great to have an ocean view lanai for such a small fee.

great public relations by staff, enjoyed the surrounding of the gardens and scenic ocean view from the pool area. Most intrigued with the coque frogs.

“Can't beat the view or the price”

The staff was friendly and helpful and my room was huge with a lanai only a few feet from Hilo Bay. For the price I paid I could not have asked for better. Be sure to splurge for a superior room with a view of the ocean. Now, the place is a bit shabby but not in a skanky way. It's charming. Try the egg battered mahi mahi from the restaurant and the general store has the best chili I've ever tasted.

So this hotel is kinda run down and all but for the price what do u want? Its right in front of the bay so u can walk to the water, the rooms are big with 2 beds and a pull out couch, good bathrooms and everything else is straight. I dont know why this hotel got such bad reviews, its met and exceeded my expectations.

It was very comfortable for the price that we paid. It was clean, maintained and had all the ammenites that we needed.

Definitly funky/retro but not all that bad. Staff was frienly and everything was clean. No luxury but the price was right. The resturant was overpriced, but again, kind of fun; out of the past.
