For 130 dollars/night a better deal can be foundPosted Dec 3, 2013
I booked this hotel for my parents relying only on reviews and was bit disappointed by my parents' feedback: 1) they were put in a room with two beds although they are clearly a married couple 2) the bathroom was with mold and was very stinky 3) the room was on the 1st floor with no proper windows 4) the room was cold and smelled dusty as if people haven't lived there for ages 5) old facilities. It took ages to cook something on the stove in the room The good things are: 1) location is very central 2) room in fact sleeps 4, is very spacious and has a fully equipped kitchen 3) I believe it is an ok price/quality deal for students In general, I am upset that I booked this hotel for my parents and I am convinced that for the price I paid (almost 400 dollars for 3 nights) I could get a customer friendlier hotel. I would definitely not recommend this hotel for families or more senior people. Students might be fine with it though.

Well located comfortable apartmentsPosted Nov 4, 2013
Pros: location, ambience and spaciousness.
Cons: There were some signs of wear and tear to work surfaces and the freezer could do with a defrost and clean.
Location: Many of Helsinki's main attractions a short walk away though the tram stop is just around the corner if you don't want to walk.
The apartments were clean , spacious and within easy walking distance of many of Helsinki's main attractions and some good bars and restaurants. Reasonably well equipped and with use of a sauna in the basement, as a family of four we had an enjoyable stay. A characterful lift to all floors.

Your own apartment in the middle of HelsinkiPosted Oct 1, 2013
I have nothing but the best to say about Hellsten Helsinki Senate. It is actually an old apartment building that has been turned into a Hotel. For a very moderate price you get your own apartment. Yes, not only a room but a proper apartment with a bedroom, living room, bathroomand a kitchenette that is equiped with a microwave, fridge and some basics such as plates, cups and glasses (which you off course need to clean yourself once used but the cleaning utensils are provided too). I stayed for a total of 5 nights and enjoyed by stay very much. Towls and sheets were changed once during my stay, which I liked as I often feel when I stay in a hotel that I have to get out of the room just to make room for the cleaning staff to do their daily routine. The cleaniless of the room was good and the reception saff very friendly. Hellsten does have a reception which is open 9am to 5pm on weekdays. If you arrive later or on weekends you will get a door code upon an e-mail request to enter the building and further instructions on how to make your own key card for your apartment. The building is actually located very close to the city centre of Helsinki. From the city centre it is a 10 minute tram (# 4 ) ride. It takes 20 minutes to walk from the city centre. Hellsten is located very close to the harbor and most of the main sights Helsinki has to offer. In short Hellsten is an excellent alternative to a conventional hotel room and for independent travelers that don't require 24/7 staff.

Always a pleasure to stayPosted Sep 12, 2013
Pros: Always everything. Buy a Day ticket EUR 8 in tram and travel all day, ferry to Suomenlinna, trams and Helsinki buses included.
Cons: Some furniture in new block are little bit worn. There is no hairdryer in the room, but you can request one and use it through your holiday
Location: Take a ferry from Market Square to Suomenlinna Fortress island. Old history of Helsinki, no cars, cobble streets, cafes, have a picknick, enjoy!
This was my third time in Hellsten Senate. I have stayed twice in the new B-block and now was in the old A-block, both have their benefits. The old part is a period building with high ceiling and period atmosphere but still modern apartments. The only minus is the lift with landing halfway the floors, so you need to pull your luggage half floor up or down. The new part had a proper lift stopping on actual floor. I think in the new part all apartments have a small balcony (except ground floor) and most of the apartments in the old part. I guess the standard rooms are in new part block-B and superior rooms in old block-A. Location of the Hellsten Senate is perfect! Tram nr 4 stops on neighboring street, if you are lazy to walk. It takes 5mins to walk to the Market Square and less than 10 mins to the Esplanade with designer shops. If you are into jogging, there is a path around the Katajanokka district, by the sea and parks. There is a pharmacy opposite to the hotel and nearest grocery store 3mins from hotel. Internet connection is now wireless, although the info file in the room advises otherwise. You will get the code by calling the reception. Although the hotel is located in the city centre, there is not much traffic in Katajanokka district, and its peaceful and quiet.

Great sized apartment in a fantastic location.Posted Sep 7, 2013
Pros: Perfect location and a great price - a really cute suana also!
Cons: Some kitchen basic's would be a real benefit, as eating out in Helsinki is very expensive, we chose a self-catering apartment due to this.
Location: Beautiful location with easy access to the centre the tram stops just round the corner. Great little coffe shop and bar near by too.
A really great sized apartment in a beautiful location that is simply to reach from the airport and train station. It's really easy to reach the city centre and and all other attractions around Helsinki from the Hellstan Senate and lovely little bars surrounding it. We found the apartment was lacking a few basic's like handsoap in the bathroom and it would have been a massive benefit to have some kitchen essentials. Being a self catering apartment we would have liked to have some kitchen basics such as salt, pepper, sugar etc. It was also quite annoying to have a coffee maker but no filters meaning we had to buy a pack of 102 filters to only use about 6 of them! These were small issues but would have a great stay even better. We would definitley return to these apartments if visiting Helskini again as the comfort and location were perfect. Oh and a really great suana!

Spacious, comfortable, good location.Posted Sep 6, 2013
Location: Book a table at the Seahorse Restaurant! Excellent traditional Finnish food, reasonably priced by people who care about their customers.
These apartments are reasonably priced and offer a good base for a family or group who wish to self cater. The reception is staffed during the day only as emphasised by the Hellsten. The young lady on reception was extremely welcoming and helpful. (A number was provided to contact staff at other times.) The Hellsten is a five minute walk from the quayside market, boat trips and Senate Square is just a little further.

Good location for seeing the city centre.Posted Sep 5, 2013
Pros: The location was good; the apartment was spacious.
Cons: The toilet sink was not working according to the sign put there by hotel staff. It should have been repaired.
Location: Close to the Market at harbourfront and walking distance to the city centre. It is also close to the Viking Cruise Terminal.
Apartment has basic cooking facilities and fridge so you can make your own meals. There is also a common washer and dryer and sauna. The elevator stops half-way between floors; if you have heavy things to carry, press the button for the next floor up and then walk down to your floor.
