Retro Vacation

Posted Mar 9, 2015
Pros: The location. Rooms were clean. The ocean side view was great.
Cons: The outside could use updating, the breakfast is pretty wimpy. They have a nice breakfast room with waffle irons etc... looks like they got lazy.
Location: The beach is great. The town is fun. Fairly close to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farms.
This hotel is old, but clean and comfortable and so close to the beach. If you're on a budget, but want to be on basically ocean front. It's great. It's clean, it's comfortable. Not pillow top comfortable, but fine for a family getaway. We had a great time. The breakfast is like a convenient store, but fine. Park under the hotel, which is very convenient. We will come back again because it was affordable and great location. We didn't eat at Sunset Pizza and Pasta, but want to come back and have a slice on the beach! The town was cool. Don't be afraid of the outside exterior, it was just find once we got inside.

Location, location, location!

Pros: I liked being able to get to the beach without crossing a highway. Beds were fine, and the staff pleasant.
Cons: More outlets, a coffee maker, better breakfast. Redo the wifi so one does not have to sign in every time one turns the computer on.
Location: Excellent restaurant (behind the gas station) across the highway. Golden Olive has great food, very reasonable prices.
The hotel is easy to access from the Pacific Coast Highway, and the beach is reachable without having to cross a major highway. Staff were pleasant and helpful. There is no place to get breakfast nearby, although there is a lunch/dinner place just the other side of the highway called the Golden Olive which is excellent. The hotel breakfasts were all packaged sweet stuff and unappealing. Wifi was fine except that I had to sign in very frequently. Strangely, there was NO cell phone service. Not the hotel's fault, obviously. Outlets were a bit sparse, and there was no place in the bathroom to plug in my night light. Light switches were bizarrely located. Elevator very slow. Beds were comfortable, and the room not too noisy, although traffic sounds from the PCH were evident. The whole place seemed a bit shabby, but it suited our purposes.

good time

Posted Mar 2, 2015
Pros: location, parking, cleanliness and complimentary breakfast
Cons: The lock on our room door malfunctioned sometimes....
We had a wonderful time here. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed the new dining room for our complimentary quick breakfast. We love the location. The hotel is under construction so we were not able to stay in the part of the hotel we prefer but our room was clean and comfortable. We like the room coffee and refrigerator.

Close to beach.

New beds, close to beach. Nice balcony. Old 70s style. Smallest bathroom I have ever been in. It was a new experience for the kids, but we all adjusted.

Good location, rude management

Posted Feb 2, 2015
Don't try to ask for late checkout. We ran the Surf City Half and asked for late checkout. The manager offered us only 30 minutes. We got back 45 minutes past regular checkout and he threatened to charge us. Great location but not nice enough for the rude hassle we received.

Family Time

Posted Jan 2, 2015
Pros: I liked parking under the Hotel, especially the night it rained.
Cons: In the bathroom, the light is controlled by a timer and the vent fan is controlled by a standard on/off switch. Should be reversed.
Location: Walking on the beach. Many good restaurants close by. Fishing, surfing, boating.
My daughter lives in Huntington Beach. Spent most of our time with family. Went to Hollywood to take in a show. The show was ' Wicked ' It was wonderful.

Fair for the price

Posted Dec 31, 2014
Pros: Location, facilities, price.
Cons: Cleanliness, security (keep eye on strangers coming into hotel. Access too easy for anyone)
Location: Tsunami Restaurant, good! Mediteranean restaurant OK. For heavy drinkers, plenty of holes a walk away to drown your sorrows
Location is very good next to the beach and many restaurant options. The usual bums hang out near the hotel so don't be surprised if you come across some characters that will keep you on the alert if you are traveling with family. Parking is very convenient, especially during summer when streets get crowded. The room was big, with good facilities, except it had no safety box. The staff was very friendly but they could do a more thorough job cleaning the bathrooms. The breakfast is not spectacular, but it will do the job if you are in a hurry or don't want to pay the extra meal elsewhere.
