Not enjoyable. Not as clean as depicted. Exercise room was flooded --at least the staff thought so. Check in was a disaster

Would not recommend

Posted Apr 25, 2015
It was close the to the MSU campus, but the actual hotel room was not how it was displayed in pictures. The bathroom shower was clogged so I was in my own filth. The bathroom floors were dirty. The tv channels were not HD. I would not recommend this hotel for the price of what it is worth!

NIce hotel and good location

Pros: great location.
Room was spacious and clean. The bed was a little soft for us, but managable. Having the kitchenette helped with late evening snacks.Great location

Worst Travel Experience I've Had in Years

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Everything
Location: It is located near the campus which is convenient.
I arrived and the lobby was empy. After waiting an hour in a empty hotel lobby I got in my car and called Expedia to attempt to get a refund. To move me to another hotel Expedia had to call the hotel to verify that there was no answer. At this time the staff returned and I went into the lobby to check in. I was given a key and went to my room 224 to check in. Tried the key, key wouldn't work. Tried again and again wouldn't work. Went back to the front desk and was given another key. Walked back & that key didn't work. I tried again and again and it didn't work. Went back to the lobby and the night person decided to then go try the door. It opened but was dead bolted. When returning to the lobby the phone rang and it was the person who was in the room given to me. He was concerned that his door was opened and was asking if he could call or should call the police. He said that someone walked into his room he felt unsafe as he could hear multiple attempts at his doorknob. Apparently he switched rooms and nobody updated the system to indicate that. So an 2 hours after I arrived I finally was able to check into my room. I woke up this morning to shower and head to a meeting I had at the University only to have one of the worst experiences I've had in a hotel get worse. I had no hot water and took a cold shower. I checked out and left. I didn't even complain I was just so disgusted with the situation.

Apartment Style Stay

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: Kitchen, full size refrigerator, and Microwave.
Cons: Bigger TV, too small for my taste.
Great place to stay, just like a little apartment and is very close to the Michigan State University.

It was fine for the one night stay. Breakfast ended too early (9:00 am) so I didn't get to check that out.

Not the greatest

Posted Apr 13, 2015
This hotel could use some refurbishing. The lock on the door felt like it could have been ripped off the door. Bathroom sink didn't drain. The sofa that was in the room was worn and looked like it was from the 60's. The mattress was uncomfortable. The continental breakfast ended at 9:00 AM and I wish the person that checked me in would have mentioned that. The good news: They were expecting me. The room was clean and the staff was friendly.

A Convenient Value

Posted Apr 6, 2015
Pros: Everything
Location: The main point is that it's close to the MSU campus, so there are a lot of campus-support business like restaurants (mostly fast-food).
I have a step-son who is attending Michigan State, and his mom and I went to visit him. The hotel was incredibly close to the campus (even my step-son was surprised by how close we were). The room was spacious and clean. The staff was extremely courteous. I would recommend Gatehouse to everyone, and I intend on staying here again.

Don't believe what you see and read.

Pros: It was close to campus.
Cons: Demolish the hotel, rebuild, and hire better people.
Location: Michigan State University was next to the hotel.
When we first arrived at the hotel, the clerk was sleeping in a storage room off of the front desk. Upon noticing us, she came to the desk and fumbled through lots of loose papers to find paperwork to have me complete for our stay. She gave us a key and sent us to a room in the back of the hotel. Upon entering the FIRST unit, we found it to be unclean, the smoke detector was missing, and the toilet handle was broken. Went back to the front desk to get another room, after settling into the first room, and again she was in the closet lying down. See accommodated our request to move, but the next room she put us in was next to a unit with a dog that frequently barked. This unit had a tub that wouldn't drain and the AC unit didn't work. The grounds were also dirty and the outside of the units were rusty, moldy, and there were no amenities.

Dismal!

Posted Apr 3, 2015
This place is a dump. Key cards failed to work twice, front desk clerk was nice but we had to keep going back & forth. A 3/4 " gap all the way around the door, could see the outside from inside and the door handle/keypad was coming off. White crud left in bottom of glasses..yuk! But worst: tv didn't work. FDesk:I'll bring a new remote. Waited: no one came. Walked up and she's eating takeout with a friend! "Oh there's no maintenance tonight, sorry". No tv and crappy room For $119? No way! Got a better deal at courtyard marriott and we left. it was swanky compared to this dump.
