Not a home away from home

Posted Aug 10, 2011
This is the first bed and breakfast that made me feel like a burdensome business client rather that a welcome guest/member of the household. While the house is a beautifully restored Craftsman cottage, I found I was never able to relax. The room was comfortable and had all the essentials (one bath towel each), but it was tiny, and my husband kept bumping his head on the ceiling above the bed. We were given a very narrow window for breakfast--7:30-8:30 a.m. This is not our idea of relaxation for a weekend at the beach, since it did not allow time for either an early morning swim and walk on the beach or to sleep in! There was no self-serve option for coffee, tea, etc. either during the day or at night, particulary important since everything in town closes at 10:00 p.m. except McD and gas stations. We even had to ask for ice water! Breakfast was served two of our three days at the table in the lovely shaded garden, the nicest part of the property. However, the mosquitos made this area off limits at night, too, since no citronella or other deterents were evident.
