“Block and a half from Subway to Manhattan”

Stayed here before. Comfortable and convenient for the business traveller trying to save a few hundred dollars vs. paying for an a Manhattan hotel. Same applies to tourists. Easy access to everything via the Subway. 7, N and Q trains at the Queensboro Plaza. A couple of blocks east you have the Queens Plaza Subway which gets you the E train. Breakfast area is attractive with many choices of self serve breakfast items. Coffee maker is a brand name but a kludge nonetheless. It makes a lot of noise and when done, you get half a cup. Oh well. Mostly good.

Area recommendations
If you want to eat locally there are some excellent restaurants a few blocks north on 39th Avenue. A great Brazilian Restaurant on 39th Ave one block east of Crescent. Then there is Harn (sp?) Thai about three blocks further east on 39th. Excellent! The neighborhood is better than it looks so feel free to walk and enjoy. Other shops and restaurants I haven't tried but there are several other interesting ones. Nothing nearby except the gas station/convenience store next door. They have reasonable prices if you want a snack or a six-pack.

“Good overall”

Pro: Cheap, very convenient location for the price, easy to catch the subway or find a taxi, nice view for some rooms Con: a bit nosiy (but at an acceptable level), Very very old towels (which is the most negative things for this hotel), poor quality of breakfast

“Definitely recommend”

Hotel was clean, service was great!! Room great with microwave and fridge as well. Subway around the corner!! I will definitely come bck here!!!

“great inside but very limited free parking”

Really good service and top quality room. We got a cityview too - bonus! Very accessible to public transit too. However, the parking that is free is very limited (less than 10 cars) so the rest of the "free" parking is on the street and we ended up walking, with luggage, one and a half blocks. There wasn't even a place to stop in front of the hotel to drop off the other passenger with the luggage unless I double-parked!

Area recommendations
Long Island City - much quieter than Manhattan and NYC is very accessible by train\subway as long as one is able to climb stairs - lots and lots of stairs in NY subway system! Felt safe as well.
Must see
Statue of Liberty by the free Staaten Island Ferry. top of the Empire State building on a clear night. Central Park by a friendly and informative bikecab (not horses). Times Square at night - most stores open until midnight there and the place is fantastic for people-watching.

“Very Clean, Good Breakfast, Close to Train, nothing to do around the hotel”

This is a hotel with a small lobby area, however the rooms are HUGE for new york and VERY clean. Each room has ample space, and a nice flat panel tv, clean bathroom, and clean sheets. My only gripe with the room is that the window does not have blackout shades and is impossible to protect from sunlight. The hotel has a cheap parking lot next to it, for $15.00/24-hours, as well as a major subway station within a 2-3 minute walk, and is about 10 minutes via walking+train combined from manhattan's midtown. Very convenient. There is nothing to do per say around the hotel, and the entire area seems run down, but for what it is, a reasonably priced, comfortable accomodation with a large, clean room, for going out in Manhattan and crashing very close by, its great. Cab rides are very cheap to go back from manhattan to the hotel, since its JUST over the queensboro bridge.

“Staying in Queens”

Very convenient location to the subway, great food nearby including a michelin recommended japanese restaurant

“New York-Queens”

Very nice stay. We got an upgrade to a view room for free, absolutely fantastic. Breakfast was good, kind of crowded around 09:30. Parking is limited, only 6-7 cars, but you can park on the adjacent streets. Close to NRQ and 7 trains, 10 min to Grand Central. Restaurant Bucharest on Queens Blvd and 40-th Street was very good, only 2 stops from Queensborough Plaza. Overall, we had a very good experience.

“Musty in New York”

The only decent part about the Country Inn & Suites by Carlton located in L.I.C., NY was their breakfast, which was all-u-could-eat and it was very satisfying. Staff was pleasant but the condition of the hotel was not. There was a very noticeable musty smell in both of the rooms that my family occupied. The hallway carpeting on the first floor had big wrinkles that were easy to trip on. The walls appear to lack adequate sound insulation because you could hear every sound that was made in the adjacent rooms. Sometimes embarrassing to hear when you have young children who would ask what those sounds where. In both of the rooms the toilet seat were so loose you had to be a good juggler to keep the seat from slipping off the bowl. Even the towel rack in one of the rooms fell off the wall on our first day. If you plan to stay in this hotel and plan to have a car, don't! The entire neighborhood serves as a taxi depot for many of NYC taxi cabs.
