Total Disappointment

Posted Jun 12, 2014
Pros: Quiet street, cafe on the corner
Cons: See above.
This place looked cute on the website, but my room (409) was not. Shabby and wobbly furniture, no attempt at decoration, mold beginning to grow in the shower, an oddly stocked kitchenette (no spoons), no bathmat. Not good. Don't go.

Flea pit on 81st

Posted May 29, 2014
We lived for years on this street so I thought it would be nice to stay there after an absence of four years. I was encouraged because there is a nice cafe and restaurant with the same name in the street and I assumed (wrongly) they were under same ownership at the hotel. What a blunder! It's hard to know where to start telling so I won't and advise you DON'T

A quirky fun place to stay. It's cheap for NYC and really interesting and quirky. We liked it.

I booked this room to be close to the hospital where my wife was having surgerynin tnt morning. The room looked nothing like the brochure. Bubbled paint on the walls, just a terrible, terrible experience. I actually couldn't believe I used expedia to book this room. Or was like something out of a1980s nightmare. No staff on duty after 6pm.

Cons: Everything needs cleaning and renovation.
Location: Nothing interesting, even the subway is far away.
Dirty room, super old facilities, crap shower, everything, even breakfast, tastes bad - disappointing.

Charming little Bed and Breakfast Hotel

Posted Feb 16, 2014
Pros: Building a little dated but all very clean. Room pretty large for a NYC room, high ceiling. Staff very helpful. Good breakfast in bed
Cons: Bed frame/mattress noisy every time someone move.
Location: Located on a street near the river, calm during the night. 5 minutes by feet to Gracie Park and 15/20 to Central Park and Museum of Art.
It's a charming little hotel on Upper West Side with breakfast in bed. Good size room, with a kitchen a little dated, and a tiny bathroom, but all really clean. Parking is free in the streets West on East side.

If You Need A Place To Crash

Posted Jan 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
For the price, this is exactly what I needed -- one room with bed, effiency kitchen, little table & chairs, free wifi, a little TV with Dish Network, and a bathroom. I even got a simple breakfast (hard boiled egg, bread item & juice) delivered to my door. The negatives (and these are minor): NYC apartment heat -- HOT (including the clanking pipes); if you have needs, you have to call the manager in his apartment, but he called back within five minutes; the elevator was out on the day I left. The Postives: The price, convenient location to HSS, VERY friendly & helpful manager (Daniel) & staff -- felt like I was staying at HIS apartment. This is an apartment building (B&B), not a hotel, and if you need a place to sleep, it's perfect.

Lousy customer service

Posted Jan 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
The manager was curt, gruff and not welcomng. I am African American and at the risk of sounding paranoid, I would say he acted like he never dealt with black people. He was condenscending and asked for money ($10) when I asked for 1 more bath towel. Also gave me a room with a dirty bathroom; the bathroom floor was dusty and the wood floor needed vacuming. Free parking that was advertized means street parking and free WiFi is a lie. The signal to the hotel is very low and you will waste your time trying to connect. In general, the worst place I have ever spent in a hotel with this price range.

Definitely don't book this inn if you are looking for a comfortable bed, flashing toilet and minimum noise level. In our somewhat shabby room we could hear everyone and everything, the conversations and movements of people in adjacent rooms, as well as the pedestrians. The mattress was insanely squicky. The two positive thing I can point out is that the staff is polite and the neighborhood is safe, otherwise not a pleasant experience at all. Plus, the website says FREE PARKING, and in reality it is just OFF THE STREET PARKING, the difference is extra $$ that you have to pay at the parking garage nearby. So, in terms of overall value, this place is overpriced for the neglected condition this place is in.
