Great location!Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: Location, staff, atmosphere
Cons: A few more umbrellas to go with the sun lounges - believe this is in the pipeline.
Location: easy travel to Georgetown - bus or taxi, night markets, tailors, massages, feet fish, anything you want really.
We stayed 8 nights here and could not have asked for a better location. The night markets stretched out in both directions, plenty of eating choices within easy walking distance. Fantastic staff - nothing was too much trouble. Huge beds, great breakfast buffet, onsite masseur, onsite nail technicians.

Pleasant hotel with short walk from pool to beachPosted Jul 11, 2014
Pros: Many shops, eateries and public transport close by. Kids room to give parents a break. Room very spacious.
Cons: The pool did not have a tropical feel but a few added trees etc would fix this.
Location: Opposite hotel was a fabulous gallery with great antiques which you are able to ship home your treasures. I caught the local bus just down the road.
I stayed on the beach side but there is also accommodation in the high rise tower across the road. I chose not to have breakfast included and ate at the corner cafe which served true Malaysian food. My room faced the street which I liked. It was nice and clean with many towels e.g.. face washers, hand towels and 2 large towels. The bathroom amenities were sufficient. Hair dryer was very powerful and coffee/tea was ample. There was a newspaper delivered every morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would have liked the pool to have more tree cover and not to look like a normal swimming pool. The night markets begin out the front of the hotel and many a bargain can be had.

Good locationPosted Jun 25, 2014
Pros: The rooms
Cons: The food needs to be greatly improved.
Location: Location great for night markets and restaurants.
We had a pleasant stay here at the Holiday Inn but didn't enjoy the food. Breakfast was crowded and there was not enough room around the buffet area. Overall we found the food below standard both a la carte and buffets. The pool is not resort style and the kiddies pool too small for the amount of children using it. Compared to a previous stay at the Golden Sands the Holiday Inn is lacking in most areas. The positive was the rooms were large and nicely decorated and very family friendly. We had interconnecting rooms, one with a king bed and double and the other with a king bed. Both rooms had a sitting area at the window and large bathrooms. The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful but receptionist in the Tower Wing when we were checking out was slow and not helpful at all.

Helpful staff; satisfactory surroundingsPosted Jun 10, 2014
Pros: Friendly and competent staff, especially in the dining area.
Cons: Room seemed damp, including the carpeting, and the air conditioning didn't alleviate the humidity. The sea is polluted; not good for swimming.
Location: Not a lot to do nearby, and beach was disappointing. But I did get a good massage and found at least one good and inexpensive restaurant nearby.
The hotel is not first-class; seems a bit run down. Ferringhi beach is disappointing because the sea is polluted. And the "town" is too touristy. Not a lot to do at night. There are much better beach resorts elsewhere in Malaysia and Indonesia. But the hotel staff was very good: friendly and efficient.

Great hotel next to the beach & night marketPosted Jun 3, 2014
Stayed in adjoining rooms in tower block. Very spacious and clean rooms - one had a huge king bed (sleeps 2) and the other room had a double and king bed (sleeps 3) - which made for a very comfortable stay. Complimentary water and newspaper provided daily. Facilities included swimming pool, pool table, wii set, ping pong table in the other block which is easily accessible.

Penang GetawayPosted Jun 1, 2014
Overall a great hotel, and great value for money (booked via expedia). Staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The rooms and public areas were very clean. Some of the facilities are a bit dated compared to other properties in the area that we saw, especially the pool area, and I imagine at busy times this would be very crowed. We found the breakfast buffet offered a great selection and good value for money, better than similar hotels I have stayed at. The beds and pillows were wonderful. I travelled with a group of friends, I had a Tower wing room, while they had rooms in the Beach wing. Tower room was bigger, brighter and fresher and appeared to be more modern. I was on the 16th floor facing the beach which was a fantastic view. I did not find the street noise was not an issue. Only some Tower rooms have a balcony, one of these would have been perfect. Stayed May 2014, travelled with friends
