Hôtel bien placé au centre ville. Chambre propre et confortable mais un peu froide, service impeccable.

no bang for your buck

We were super excited about having dinner at the hotel because the hotel doubles as a cooking school but were rather disappointed. My mom had what the waiter recommended & the veggies were way overcooked with no bite at all just basically mush. I ordered a different dish but it came with the same veggie garnish as my mom's, not that impressive. I might just be a food snob although I feel it's only fair that a cooking school & a 4-star hotel delivers top dollar food. We also played a game of pool & they charged 3 euros for it then claimed that it was stated in the pool room. Went back to see as I had only seen a photo frame which said that you had to get the pool balls from the reception. Figured out that there's a book which states the price. To charge for a game of pool at a 4-star hotel is extremely far from my expectations & I look forward to the day where there's an international rating system for hotels so the customer knows what to expect globally.

Hotel Refugio Da Vila

I stayed at the Hotel Refugio Da Vila for one night and can only say that I wish I could have stayed longer. A wonderfully quiet and peaceful atmosphere with friendly staff. The food in the restaurant was wonderful, traditional Alentejo cuisine and a very good selection of regional wines. The town of Portel is also very beautiful, with its narrow streets and imposing views from the Castle. The rooms are very comfortable and charming in their decor. A magical experience all round.

Mooi hotel, kamers en zwembad, met vriendelijk personneel. verder niet veel te doen in het dorp.
