just terriblePosted Jan 16, 2014
breakfast ok. The rest is a pure joke. don't stay there, it's about making money without serving client. dirty pool, annoying dogs, no service, dull room, tried to charge extra $30 for basic crib. $35 dinner...

Good for ranch-style bookingsPosted Nov 9, 2011 on Hotels.com
This place is a ranch - not a hotel as one might think of it typically. I highly recommend paying for the dinner at the ranch as Alejandro and his staff will take good care of you. It's very good food and a good value for the wine/food you get compared to a place in downtown Colonia. Expect to be staying at a ranch...not a 'hotel' per say. If you're coming out to check-in before lunch, I'd would encourage you to bring some snacks or a picnic with you since there's not really a 'restaurant' on property. Do that for lunch so you don't have to cab or drive back to downtown to eat, and then pay for the dinner..well worth it.

La Recompensa was a relaxing treatPosted Mar 27, 2011
We had a wonderful one night respite at La Recompensa outside Colonial del Sacramento. The innkeepers were warm and wonderful, the breakfast was lovely and it was a wonderful, relaxing change from the bustle of Montevideo. And the best was the dogs! Three sweet, friendly pooches who were wonderful greeters.

Beautiful country settingPosted Feb 21, 2011 on Hotels.com
If you want all the latest conveniences, this is not the hotel for you. If you want charm, rustic beauty, tasteful decor, lots of hot water in the shower and a nice outdoor pool, La Recompensa is just the ticket. The owners are friendly and quirky, the cook is a delight and the three dogs make you feel at home. The breakfast is delicious and abundant. It is about a five minute drive to the old town in Colonia, but the rural setting is lovely. Wifi worked, but the plugs thwarted even my universal adapter. If you are going to stay for more that a few days, bring an extra battery.

Elegant RanchPosted Dec 3, 2010
If you have a car, La Recompensa is an elegant colonial era ranch with wonderful modern amenities such as an in-ground pool and opulent bath just a few miles from Colonia. The breakfast is wonderful, served cheerfully in a wonderful dining room furnished with sturdy antiques befitting the home.
