Difficult to believe I was in NZ!Posted Mar 11, 2014
On arrival a resident was paying $80. He asked if the $80 could be used to fix the washing machine. The desk person said he had rung the repair place many times, but had no response, but seemed absolutely disinterested in perhaps trying another company. My room gave onto a corridor with no directions to find the bathroom. The bathroom seemed to service the whole floor, perhaps 50 rooms. 1 toilet could not flush. The other worked. The washing machine was broken. There was 1 shower, mould and paint peeling, lino cracked and dirty. It was a health risk to take a shower. I have never experienced such a 3rd world environment in NZ and I am really sorry that tourists are treated in this way.

City Lodge, communal facilitiesPosted Feb 27, 2014
Pros: Confortable pillow and convenient location.
Cons: It was noisy but given my room was above a major intersection I dont think thats going to change.
Location: Walking distance to all things central city.
The room was clean and comfortable, the linen fresh. I was not expecting a four star hotel so it meet my expectations.

For Backpackers only.Posted Feb 25, 2014
Pros: It is very close and easy walking to Cuba St. and Courtney place
Cons: Clean the showers and toilets, maybe a lick of paint - better still, renovate the lot. run the vacuum cleaner more than once a day, clean showers!
Location: The place is right in the midst the CBD, which is great for getting to anywhere, but not so good as far as traffic sounds that go on all night
Arrived to find there was this guy at the reception which is actually not stuff, just waiting for the person in charge to come back from a cigarette break... waited for about 10 minutes - not a good start. The staff are pleasant enough, and to my mind had no idea how to find the booking I made, but still placed me in a single room as requested. The place is a pigsty, but the room was clean enough although could do with a paint job and fixing holes in the door. The window was facing the street and the noise, and I could either close it and have relative quite but no air, or accept that the cost of fresh air is noise...

Dirty, noisy lodge close to the city.Posted Feb 24, 2014
Cons: You need to go and see for yourself. It's a least an hours work for me to list.
Location: I think that's your job
Staff were very good. Guests were drunk, noisy, messy and taking up all the room. They were not aggressive however. Party went on through out the night. Lots of shouting etc. outside window. Spoke to other guests next morning, they couldn't sleep. First night - Room for 3, room was dirty, beds dirty from previous night, upset my sons. Felt the duvet was too dirty to use. Old food in take away container in room. Negotiated small reduction with staff, staff v. good apart from house keeper, who still only bought one sheet for me to make bed, and no pillow cases! Next night - Room for 1. Room looked clean. Bed comfortable. Bright light on all night outside window, thin curtains, made it impossible to sleep.

Good cheap accommodationPosted Feb 10, 2014
Great pricing for being in the city and a walk away from most places we needed to go friendly service and decent rooms. Would recommend to mates for sure.

great price for a family stay in wellingtonPosted Jan 9, 2014
Using the family room (sleeps six) was a very affordable way to visit Wellington. The family room had everything we needed. Its own bathroom, kitchenette, linen for bed and towels as well as tv. The staff were friendly and helpful. Location is central. Overall, we have super memories of our Wellington visit which we accomplished on a budget.

DisgustingPosted Jan 4, 2014
Definitely not as advertised! Rooms were filthy & grotty. Holes in the walls. Not what was pictured on the website. Stayed one night but was meant to stay a week but demanded a refund. Bar in middle of bed which digs into your back & rowdy party goers until the early hours of the morning. People standing outside building drunk as we arrived & cops roaming around. Do not go to this place.

Good cheap stay right in the heart of the city.Posted Dec 29, 2013
Pros: Excellent friendly staff.
Cons: Smokers area at the rear of the accommodation, brighten up the lobby area and use better smelling detergent in the ground floor bathrooms.
Location: Right in the centre of town, around the corner from Cuba mall and the bustling night life of Courtney Place. Walking distance to Te Papa & waterfront.
We found the backpackers easily. We got car parking $10 for the night, which we thought was ok. I was disappointed by the state of the lobby and the strong smell of cigarettes and cheap urinal blocks as we walked in. I know this a cheap accommodation but this is no reason for the sloppy conditions. The staff on the desk were lovely and accommodating. The room was pretty clean and the linen wash fresh. We stayed in the family room which had two sets of bunks and a queen bed. We have three children, 13,8 & 7 who did find it hard to sleep because of all the noise. Which is the only reason I would not recommend this backpackers to friends with children. The place has a very young traveller/party atmosphere that doesn't suit children. If I was still traveling I would love the place.
