Plenty of space but a little smelly

The Eastgate is conveniently located, a short walk from Grand Central Station. There are two grocery stores close by which is terrific for a family of five saving money and eating healthily. We were easily able to make our own meals because our rooms consisted of a full kitchen. In addition, our family was extremely comfortable as the rooms also consisted of two large bedrooms, a spacious living area and dining room. We were very comfortable. The decor is a little outdated and the rooms smelt of preivously having been smoking rooms which bothered me. These days, I also think that the internet should be complimentary.

Broadway is a must! Wicked was outstanding!

Great value hotel

Room was more than adequate for a family of 4. The kitchenette was good size too, having a microwave and a refrigerator is always a plus. The personnel at the hotel was very friendly and helpful, it’s in a nice, safe neighborhood and you are literally 5 minutes away from Grand Central Station. You can walk to 5th Avenue or catch subway, either way it’s a good spot to be at. We have no complaints, it’s not 5 star but for the price it’s a great value.

Worth every penny!

The staff was by far the most friendly folks we met in NYC! Were always greeted with friendly smiles. We had a problem with the toilet in the middle of the night, and they sent someone right up to fix it, and we were back in "business". I would definately recommend this hotel, it was a great landing place for all of the sites and shopping we wanted to see.

Cafeteria not open

I thought my stay at you hotel was okay for the money. This was my first trip to New York. The room was very clean, just needed some updating. I was disappointed that the cafeteria was closed. There was nowhere around but McDonalds to eat late at night or in the morning. It was within walking distance of all attractions. No longer than we stayed in our room it was alright I guess for the price. This location was recommended to us by someone who had stayed in the past. We did not check anywhere else. We will price shop next time. Overall my trip to New York for the first time was awesome. I would love to hear about a discount or a free night stay, because I do plan on coming back sometime in the near future.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

This hotel is located within 15 minutes walking distance of all attractions, 5th avenue shopping, subways and restaurants. There isn’t anything a couple of minutes around the block for a late night snack, etc. Hotel is very tall but small areas on the inside.

EastGate is a good choice

The hotel is located in a very good area; there are many options of transportation, a lot of stores, coffee shops and restaurants for you to choose in the surroundings. The suite is very comfortable, clean, the bed and shower are great and as the bedroom is equipped with a kitchen you can make your own food if you like. At night everything is quite and you can rest for the adventures of the day. The staff is very kind and helpful. I highly recommend it! Gilberto.

NY Eastgate Towers

This hotel was excellent. It was close to everything...Grand Central Station, Time Square, Shopping. I love it because it was like apartment living with room service. Don’t get any better than that.

Eastgate Towers: Huge Space Nice People

Stayed for 3 nights along with my sister and bro-in-law. The staff were all helpful and friendly in a genuine manner. The rooms are very large. Our 1br was ~ 1000sft and had 1.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen and nice views. My sister’s only had one bath, but was equally spacious. The sofa folded out to a sofa bed. It’s a short walk to mid town and 39th St offers plenty of dining and shopping options. The bathrooms and kitchen are a little tired, but were clean. This is an observation, not a complaint.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

use the kitchen to make your own meals. We saved big $ on this and we didn’t feel like going out after a long day on the town. D’Agos and another good grocer are nearby.

An unusually good find

I would select this hotel before any other in New York City. My room was quiet and quite large, something one does not find in Manhattan.

OK for quick trip

We had adequate rooms but registration area was very tight, and lots of congestion. We had difficulty finding the rooms. There was one room that was short of sleeping arrangements since we were sharing and we had to rent a cot for additional money. The restaurant was closed for remodeling. We had a problem with our bill which was quickly corrected. Not a bad location and not bad staff but just not your 5 star digs.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Close to shopping, Grand Central station and other NYC icons.

Horrible stay

Hotel was not kept up. Old and dirty. TV remote controls were disgusting. Kitchen was so dirty. Carpet was sticky and damp. Toilet bowel was leaking. I checked out to a different hotel before the end of my trip. I could not stand it. It made me itchy all over.

If you want a comfortable stay, you need to pay a little more. It’s all worth it.

Very Friendly

We were very impressed with the exceptional welcome we had by the staff.NYC isn’t known for being the warmest of refuges. We recieved packages, faxes without having to pay any fee (as we had to pay in Boston Sheraton)It is not a luxury hotel, and in addition, the room really smelled of tobacco. I don’t know if that really was an encrusted odor or the neighbors were chain smokers.Really good location, close to subways.Have to say that it was the staff that made an otherwise slightly dreary, all be it very clean room, a very pleasant stay.

Good value

Our stay was consistent with other reviewers’. The hallways are dated, so is the room decor, but our room was clean, the bed was firm, and the air conditioning worked. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The location is great -- close to buses and around the block from Daniel’s Bagels.

good price

for a 2 bedroom apt, this is a good price. but the hotel room needs new carpets. some nooks and crannies need thorough cleaning- dust behind the tables and such...good for a budget trip. this is our 3rd or 4th stay in eastgate; there seems to be less employees (at least in the lobby).

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

use the subway...hotel is 2 blocks away from grand central station which can get you anywhere in NYC

Exactly what we were looking for in NYC!

After reading all of the great reviews, we had high hopes our rooms would be clean, have lots of space, and the staff would be friendly and helpful. We were very pleased. I will recommend this hotel to all of my friends.

Excellent place to stay

Very conveniently located, close to UN, Empire state building, this is a hotel I would strongly recommend to anyone who is looking for a short stay of couple of days or for a week or more. I stayed with my family in a 1 bedroom suite with a large living/dining area. The rooms were very spacious. Supermarkets, restaurants etc are all in close proximity. Eastgate will be our choice for our next trip to New York as well.

Fantastic value at great midtown location!

The Eastgate is great, all suites in what apparently is an old apartment building which has been converted into a hotel. The location is great if you need to be in midtown, nice quiet east side location, but close to the sights. We booked a regular suite and were upgraded to a deluxe suite which was basically a one bedroom apartment with a huge living/dining room and huge bedroom, nice kitchen and bathroom. The building is obviously old but has been remodeled nicely and is very clean and comfortable. The staff were very professional, friendly, and accommodating. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, the value for money is excellent.

Ideal for Small Groups

This hotel was ideal for the needs of my group - five college friends celebrating our 60th birthdays in the Big Apple! We were all able to be together in the same suite and loved having a large living room, dining room and kitchen too, all at a very reasonable rate. The beds were comfortable and the housekeeping was excellent. We were all first-time visitors to NYC and were very happy with the location and quality of the hotel. We had to take a taxi a few times to make sure we got to our destination on time, but for the most part we walked everywhere.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Wear good walking shoes and be prepared to do lots of walking in Manhattan. Everything in midtown Manhattan is within reasonable walking distance from the hotel, including Times Square, the Theater District, Grand Central Terminal and the U.N.
