The :Luxe is Strange

The hotel is situated on a hill with two separate buildings. You drive to the second building. There is no self-park, only valet. If you want to get from the top building to the restaurant, you must call for a valet shuttle. There is no safe walkway to the bottom building. Upon arrival, there were two large poodles running around without a leash that "belonged to a guest:" I just hoped for no fleas. The building was one floor with a large patio looking out to the city. Nice. The flat screen TV on the wall was to small for the distance to the bed. Maybe 32". The room was large and the beds were comfortable. My only complaint might be the noise level coming from the next room. I could hear people talking late into the night and children’s cartoons on at 6:30 a.m. .

Lovely but be prepred to wait for your car.

The Luxe is a lovely and conveniently located hotel. The lobby was clean, modern & convenient. The staff was helpful and efficient. Our room was large, well-maintained and beautifully decorated. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows and towels. The only drawback was the extra $25 nightly parking charge. The parking lot of the Lux is so small that cars are parked one behind another and must be parked & retrieved by the hotel valet. Every time we wanted to use the car there was another $5 tip required and a wait (up to 20 minutes) while the valet moved several cars around in order to get ours from behind several others. We did not use the pool, but it was absolutely gorgeous.

Watch out for credit card charges being double billed!

Double billed for pedicure and manicure for two at the price of $360 in the spa (pedicure in a plastic tub!) Never returning, as two weeks and still no resolution.

Great Hotel

I got a very good rate for the 2 nights I was staying there. It was definitely worth the money. The hotel is very close to the freeway, but the rooms are quite and you can’t hear it at all.

luxe hotel

Its located too far away from anything and its very expensive to get any where, the hotel itself has a very steep hill to get to the top section of the hotelwhich is a pain if you are walking. Its also quite noisy with the freeways just outside the windows and we could hear people in other rooms clearly through the walls. However the cleaning staff and the drivers did an excellent job and were always willing to help.

Great Location to anyware in L,A.

Nice refurnished hotel rooms. Excelent for the price. Very well located to go anyware in LA. Big room, small bathroom. There were only 2 things not very good: a) the quality of the food in room service, and b)if you get a room on the second flor, if you have heavy laugage, there is no elevator

The Luxe was a great get away hotel for the weekend

The room was large and clean, the bed was comfortable the pool was a bit of a walk from the main building but worth it. The location of the hotel is close to downtown and the beach, who can ask for anything more for a weekend greataway.

Great value and service

We thoroughly enjoyed this, and the hotel’s access to the 405 (private dedicated light) is superb. Excellent service, and our requests were met quickly and with friendliness.

Hidden away

Location is excellent, just off 405 near UCLA. Something of a boutique hotel. Nice staff. Room larger than anticipated. Pool is small but pool deck very nice for relaxing. Did not try restaurant onsite or spa services.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Concierge was helpful regarding routes to avoid during rush hour, etc. Do plan to visit Getty Center while there - use the hotel shuttle - and plan to stay at least a half day at the museum center.

Remodeled mildewy hotel

Our room smelled like a wet dog. The smell never went away during our entire 5-day stay. The valet parking fees are ridiculous since you can see your car as you hand the guy your ticket and then he just gives you the keys. Other than that, it was a nice place in a decent location.

Great Location

This hotel is located right of the 405 and is easy access to all parts of LA. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere is great. The pool area is away from the lobby, restaurant and bar and there are no real pool-side rooms.

Great Place, Great Location, Great Pool

This will now be my LA hotel from now on, and I’ll recommend it to anyone who’ll listen. Right off the 405 on Sunset in between the ocean and downtown, good restaurant, friendly staff, great pool, great rate.

Luxury hotel with excellent staff

We spent a weekend at the Luxe and enjoyed their high-quality service and beautiful grounds. The hotel is tucked away even though it is right next to Interstate 405. We didn’t hear any street noise. The rooms are spacious, beds comfortable. I would recommend this to someone who wants to see a quieter part of Los Angeles. The Getty Museum is just a stone’s throw away.

If you don’t mind a short, steep trek you can walk from the main lobby building to the pool, otherwise ask for the shuttle.

Pleasant and convenient

Room spatious and comfortable - great beds. Quiet despite convenient location close to Sunset Blvd and 405 Freeway. Great parking valets, front desk, nice restaurant and lounge. Pool clean, relaxing and inviting. Able to get a lot of work done as well as easily meet friends. Housecleaning is active, so be sure to hang the Do Not Disturb card on the door.

Not for families

This hotel has two separate buildings on the slope. Lower one has lobby, restaurant and bar, and upper one has gym and spa, where two buildings are not connected inside. Outside swimming pool was really small unlike the picture and my son was really disappointed. Beds were not so comfortable.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

This hotel has one tennis court in a nice condition. Visit the Getty Center nearby - it’s less than 10 min. away!

Great Hotel

I would recommend the Luxe Hotel Sunset Blvd. to everyone. It’s near the freeway, but you would never know it. It is tucked away among the trees on a quite hillside. The staff welcomed us with a free drink card for the bar. The room had a nice balcony that looked up the hill toward the Getty Museum. The pool was heated and they have a spa. We were close to Westwood Village and the UCLA campus where our son attends Law School. So it was a great fit, we will defiantly stay there again.

NOT A FOUR STAR HOTEL!

I’m not sure who’s rating hotels these days but this is NOT a four star hotel. Paint was peeling off of the walls. When our hotel key wouldn’t work, I called the front desk to have someone bring a new key and my husband just slid the "not working key" into the side (like you see in the movies) and the door opened right up! And finally, when I called for our car -- they didn’t bring it to our level (it has a spa level and ground level). Oh, and the valet didn’t open my door.

Traveler's tip

Don’t stay here if you expect anything extraordinary! If you are not picky or your company’s expense account is cheap -- its okay.

Dear Guest, we are very sorry about the experience you had at the Luxe Hotel. As you can see from the many other positive comments on Expedia, your experience is not the norm. We completed a wonderful renovation of the entire property in August of 2006, and we are vigilant in keeping the hotel looking good. We can obviously do better. Thank you for your feedback.

Good deal for what you get.

The Luxe on Sunset is in need of some renovation and the Junior Suite I paid for seemed more like a room with a little nook for a couch, but overall it was a good deal compared to what else was available. The staff were courteous, room service was quick and pleasant and, overall, I enjoyed my stay. It does need an overhaul soon, but it represents good value in over-priced LA.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

watch out for the service fee on room service. It’s VERY high (like 19%) and turns a $25 steak dinner into a $65 room charge.
