Maison 140 is a delight in downtown Hollywood

Attending a conference at Beverly Hilton and decided to stay at Maison 140 instead for less than half the price...and just a couple blocks away. Nice and quiet side street with the most comfortable bed ever. The staff was so helpful. It’s a block away from the Peninsula and two blocks from the Hilton...great area. Highly recommended! Super clean...and the amenities in the shower were luxury. The heater in my room didnt work well, but the bedding was so comfy i didnt mind. They have the coolest little bar in the place too!

No need to rent a car if you are just staying for a day or two. You can catch a shuttle back and forth from LAX to the Beverly Hilton for just $16 each way versus $50 for a cab each way. If you rent a car its $60 a day plus another $30 to park each day. The shuttle is not part of the Hilton, but the concierge there can book it for you. Just tell them you want the $16 shuttle.

Great hotel

Everyone said this hotel was small, but I found it absolutely superb. Okay l’m British so used to more "European" sized rooms, and originally from London so do get the meaning of small, however I didn’t find this hotel to be anything like the image painted by previous reviews. Was greeted with glass of champagne, extremely friendly staff and gorgeous decor. Room was amazing - I had the Mandarin suite - beautifully done and great size (in my mind). Would definitely return.

Best Value In Beverly Hills

As a frequent business traveler to west LA, I’m always looking for good, reasonable hotels. Maison 140 was recommended several years ago, and I’ve stayed with them every chance I get. The rooms are European, meaning small, but clean and very comfortable. The staff is outstanding. Once, my flight was delayed three hours, and Ireceptionist prepared a snack plate with fruit, yogurt, and cheese and a glass of wine. Exactly what I needed after arriving too late for dinner. Best of all, the location is excellent, an easy walk from the heart of Beverly Hills. If you’re a Marriott fan, the rooms will be small and less to your liking, but the service will be surprising good.

Room Size

I’ve stayed at this hotel for years, but there are a few rooms that you can barely turn around in... same price as the other rooms. Won’t stay there again and risk getting one of them. Day Manager not the least bit interested in helping the situation.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Easy self parking and no valet.

Modern and Different

This appears to be a conversion from an older-style Beverly Hills apartment building. The conversion was successful, and the rooms, while a bit small, are very comfortable and well appointed. The interior design is nouveau-something, with black and chrome accents. The staff were very attentive.

Comfortable, Well located

This is a cute, boutique hotel which is well located for large events in the area such as at the Beverly Hilton. Rooms are small. The very comfortable bed fills up most of the floor space. The television sits on the desk, leaving little surface area to do your own work. Very pleasant and helpful staff. I’ll stay there again.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Not far from Rodeo Drive and nearby upscale retailers

Terrible hotel

The TV was set to Spanish and the hotel clerk could not fix it. I had to spend an hour trying to fix it myself. Light by bed was broken and they did not repair it. Internet would not work and they did not know how to repair it. Overall, it was a terrible experience.

Not disappointed, but nut incredibly impressed either

Staff watched us carry our bags in and didn’t offer to open the door or help, but instead finished his cigarette... The front desk was more just a table put in the living room, but the staff was nice. The room was pretty small, so it’s a good thing my boyfriend and I really like each other! The decor was cute, but a bit cheap. Bathroom resembled one from say, your workplace...nothing glamorous at all. We decided to stay here because of the quaint feeling and ritzy location, but instead of Nordstroms, felt like Macy’s. Wine reception and continental breakfast is additional cost per person, which they don’t tell you about until you check out, and not amazing, but not bad. Parking was high for a night and served as the prime view of the room we were given. A little bit disappointing, but still a good deal. Cute slightly comfy robes provided.

Good, not Great

There are actually hotels in better locations for less money that are still pretty cute, like the Beverly Terrace. One very nice feature of Maison 140 though is Bar Noir - the ultra cute bar/lobby on the main floor. There is a complimentary wine hour for guests from 5:30-6:30. Nice touch.

It was a good stay.

The location is great and the staff was very accommodating. The hotel itself feels very European - small but comfortable and well put together. I do think the price is a little high, but maybe that’s because of the Beverly Hills’ address. Nonetheless, for the price, I was surprised that the shade in my bathroom was broken and the room smelled a little funky.

Great boutique hotel in great Beverly Hills location

The hotel was just as described, small, tidy, with a Parisian theme and excellent service. Room was small but being from New York that was not a problem. GREAT location right next to CAA headquarters on the western end of Beverly Hills. I did not want to leave.

Nice small hotel, slight curious odor, would stay again.

The hotel was nice, only complaint was that the hallways and room smelled like a dirty wet gym sock.Once inside our room the odor wasn’t as bad but it was still there. You don’t notice it after a while-only coming and going.I just want to know what it is!Small rooms, but your only there to shower, sleep and relax.Bed and pillows very comfy.

Tiny rooms with nice stylistic touches

Chic retro decor, very convenient Beverly Hills location, and the staff was friendly and accommodating (we were given another room when the one we were assigned smelled bad) though slightly forgetful (don’t count on your wake-up call). However the rooms were TINY with not enough space for our weekend’s worth of clothes. My boyfriend said it best: "You can’t swing a cat in this room without hitting the walls!" It was a bit noisy- we could hear neighbor’s doors opening/closing all night. Next time I’d opt for a larger room with better amenities and service at a non-boutique hotel.

Cute boutique hotel

Though small, it was still a very comfortable room. Love that we were able to open the windows too. Nice staff and good location. Just wish they had their own pool.

Faux Luxury

This would be an acceptable little place for the money...in Europe. We spent the first night of our marriage here, and the front desk was aware of this. Nevertheless, our room was right next to the noisy stairwell. Thin walls didn’t help with noise, either. I called three days in advance to request a bottle of champagne for the room, and when we arrived after the reception there wasn’t one in the room. The room itself was tiny and smelled musty, like most hotels with poor ventilation and leaky wall-unit air conditioners. The mattress was firm, the pillows mushy, the closet impossibly small. The bath decor and fixtures were nice, but the shower was barely large enough to hold me. Moulton Brown toiletries, luxury linens, Pottery Barn decor and an LCD TV did not go far enough toward making up for this hotel’s shortcomings. Plus, parking is $20 a night. When we checked out, a VW Vanagon Westfalia was parked on the street, pop-up roof tent presumably filled with sleeping people vacationing in SoCal. I couldn’t help but think that old VW van might have been more comfortable.

Solid boutique hotel

This is a pretty solid boutique hotel. The location and price were excellent if you want to stay in Beverly Hills, within walking distance of Rodeo Drive and close driving distance to Santa Monica, Westwood & West Hollywood. The layout was a little cramped, but the bed was nice and the room had the fun character you look for in a boutique hotel.

Great Stay at Charming, Designery Boutique Hotel

Very cute hotel with very helpful staff. Rooms are small, but I really enjoyed the playful, vibrant interiors and its fun play on french chinoiserie hits modernism. Not for the traveler who is looking for the more mainstream luxury type accomodations.

The Long Dark Hallway

Somehow black-on-black was not what I had imagined...but there it was--when the elevator door opened, I stepped out into a long, dark hallway (black ceiling, black walls, black carpeting). WOW! This hotel had come a long way from its Gish ownership in the late 30’s!

Traveler's tip for business travelers

This hotel was about half way between my meetings (Constellation Blvd.) and dining spots. Great "business" hotel.
