Clean, Comfy, Close
This hotel was built in 1927, renovated for the Olympics. The rooms were very clean. The staff was extremely welcoming. I only wish Id had time to check out the ballroom lounge downstairs! Highly recommended, great little restaurants and shops, close to Midtown and downtown where I needed to be- I look forward to my next stay!

quaint and cute!
the highland inn is in a great location, close to midtown and little five points. this was my second stay at the hotel and i still love it! the rooms are small but cute and unique. each room is painted a different color and the furniture is a little different, unlike those cookie-cutter chain hotel rooms. i would definitely recommend the highland inn!

Love this place!
Have stayed here before--best walking neighborhood in Atlanta, and a true "old south" find.

Wouldnt dream of going anywhere else.
I love the atmosphere and friendly staff! The Highland Inn offers a "homey" feeling and is in a great location. You can walk to shops and restaurants...movie theater less than a block away! Highly recommend!

a gem hidden in a lovely neighborhood
older hotel, but it has been remodeled and is in excellent shape. attentive staff. wonderful location. we stayed there on our trip to see a concert at piedmont park. walking distance. easy access to the carter center and to downtown. wed stay there again.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
a local bus runs from the hotel to piedmont park. no reason to drive your car and look for parking.

Good if youre on a budget
Its not bad for a "less expensive hotel", but you do pay for what you get. Our room was small like a childs bedroom and the bathroom was tiny - only one person at a time. The toilet was about 1 ft. in front of the wall, so those with long legs have to sit sideways.

Cant beat the location
The Inn is an old, European style arrangement located very close to shops and bars of the Virginia Highland area. We really enjoyed Sunday brunch right next door. Built in 1927, there is nothing fancy about the room or continential breakfast, but it was very clean, with comfortable beds, and quite enjoyable. No coffee maker or hair dryer here, but it was exactly what we were looking for - small, comfortable, close to Piedmont Park, shops, etc.

Pleasant Stay
It is a somewhat rickety old building, with small rooms, but I was happy with the choice. The room was comfortable, I dont really need a big TV to watch bad television. The shower gushed acre feet of water which -- while it did not make my inner environmentalist happy -- was the best shower Ive had in years. The staff were nice and helpful, and let me into my room earlier than any other hotel would have done. The street it is on is full of restaurants and bars, and its an easy walk over to Little Five Points. A cool little neighborhood with more of both. The only downside was lack of internet access, and its distance from MARTA. But if you have an internet connection, its pretty easy to find out when buses are coming and get where you need to go... Or rent a bike.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Your in walking distance of Little Five points, and really a 20-25 minute walk from MARTA, but I would have loved to have had a bike here.

Not a very good hotel
We arrived at 1:30 am in Atlanta, and had trouble finding the Highland Inn. We were on only a few blocks away. I called the hotel to ask better directions, but the clerk was rude and told me to ask someone on the steet. There are no handicap access ramps up the step to the hotel office. There is no elevator. There is a night club with loud music that you can hear and feel on the first level of the hotel. The clubs patrons took up all the available parking when we were there. The room was tiny. I had booked a room for two, and the bed was not a queen size, but a double. The sheets were clean. The window unit air conditioner barely cooled the room. The employees during the day were pleasant.

Clean but not luxury
The Inn provides a clean room at a great rate. It is only a couple of blocks from Virginia Highlands which is a great place to eat, stroll, etc. The value is good, but it is old and has the quirks of its age. Radiator heat (which I didnt know how to operate), window A/C, exposed sprinkler piping, and creaky floors.

We will stay here again
This place was great for a weekend get away. Walking distance from little 5 points. Staff was very nice and helpful. Check out Majestic Diner just around the corner. Its 24 hours. Hotel is in a old building but clean and well kept. It is a great price verses others in the area.

Great little hotel in a great neighborhood
The Highland Inn was the perfect place to stay during my recent trip to Atlanta. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small but beautifully decorated, and very clean. The continental breakfast was adequate if not over-the-top - mostly prepackaged carby stuff, and coffee. The real advantage here is the neighborhood - within only a block or two there is shopping, a punky art-house movie theatre, and lots of great restaurants and bars. The hotel also has its own downstairs lounge with live music on the weekends. All in all, it was a fun place to stay!
Traveler's tip
There are a number of nightclubs nearby with live music and big crowds on the weekends, and it is *LOUD* outside until well past midnight on those nights. This is not the right place for those who need peace and quiet or want to turn in early.

Lumpy Bed
This hotel is in a good location, has a pleasant staff and is reasonably priced. However, I wouldnt recommend staying there in the winter. The heat was an all or nothing experience - you can broil or turn it off and freeze. Also, the radiator was so loud that we did finally turn it off and then when we turned it back on in the AM, there was no heat anyway. Another problem: the main comfort in a hotel, even a cheap one, is a decent mattress. Ours was soft and saggy - ugh.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The Atlanta book exchange is across the street from the hotel. Its a really nice used bookstore with a lot of used academic and literary titles.

Great, unique stay
I thought it was a cool neighborhood. There was a lot of nightlife within walking distance. We found an Irish pub with live music down the street called the Limerick Junction. It was great! The bed was very comfortable. This is not a cookie-cutter new construction hotel. It felt more like staying over a someones house. I would definitely come again!

Lots of character
This hotel is great for those who appreciate Atlantas history. The ballroom was disappointing. There was not alot going on the night of my stay. The artwork inside the hotel was very neat. The hotel gives you a haunted vibe. Great for tourists.

Lots of vintage stores in the area!!! Awesome buys!

I wouldnt stay here....
I could get past the "boutique" atmosphere of the hotel (old and quirky) but the creaking floorboards and noisy parking lot made it impossible to sleep. Even for the price, if you cant reasonable expect to get a good nights sleep, it isnt worth it.

The Highland Once Again
This was my third stay at this hotel. It is nicely located in the Poncey-Highland area and just blocks from little five points. Rooms are spare but comfortable. In room wireless leaves a lot to be desired, but nearly everywhere you go in this part of Atlanta there is free internet.

Wonderful place to stay. Has character. Feel like you are staying somewhere special, not some chain hotel. All kinds of restaurants and neat shops right next door. Definetly plan on returning.

Great neighborhood, really nice hotel
This hotel is in a great neighborhood, and I had a great experience there (two nights over five days in Georgia). The hotel is old and the room was a little small, but overall it was very clean, well-maintained, and pleasant. The continental breakfast was also very nice. If you are on a budget, or are only staying in Atlanta for a couple of days, I cant imagine a better place to stay.

Not impressed.
When I first checked in the hotel, the person at the desk made me feel so uncomfortable. The rooms are very, very small. The restroom is about as big as the room. The air conditioning unit in the window took about 2 hours to get the room cool, even though the room was small. I took my laptop to try to get some work done. The internet would not connect anywhere in the hotel. The man at the desk wasnt any help. He said that he didnt know anything about computers anyway. I finally left after being there for about 8 hours. I didnt even spend the night.

Great Hotel, Great Location, Great Price
The Highland Inn was conveniently located next to the bars and restaurants of the Virginia Highlands. The staff was extremely friendly, room was very clean and the price was the best in the area. Hotel has lots of charm and you can walk out the door to anything you want to do in this great area of Atlanta. If you are planning a low budget trip to Atlanta and want the convenience of a great location within walking distance this is the place for you-I would stay here again in a heartbeat!
