![I put this photo in to remind people going to Cairo that you must not miss this place with so many antiquities. And you can get up close and personal with them, including Tut's mask. I think it's worth hiring a tour guide who can explain the history and the stories around when the museum nearly got ransacked a few years ago. The guides, mostly casual workers, stood arm-in-arm to defy the looters. The great pyramid is 146.5 metres tall while the Sphinx is ~20 metres tall. The pyramids are widely considered to have been built as tombs. While there's no consensus on why this statue of Sphinx was erected, the folklore of Riddle Of Sphinx surely adds some spice to the mystery surrounding it.

![This is a hidden gem. It is in Garbage City so most tour guides will not take you. But if you go through the garbage city and up a hill you will find this Christian church carved into a cave. The walls have elaborate carvings in them and the amphitheater is huge. I think this was one of the neatest things we saw on this trip. Be respectful when going through trash city, they are not used to tourists and don't want their photos taken. Do not go after dark.

"Our stay overall was good for the week we were there. We utilized the hotel shuttle service daily to take us out to the various sights around Cairo which was on the pricey side but was worth the money. We had the same driver the whole time and he was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the historical landmarks and the general culture. Helped us take pictures of things we wanted to see and pictures of us. Poolside area was esthetically layed out nicely. Lounge chairs could have been more modern as they looked a little dated for this hotel. Had to wait for someone to walk around for any kind of service as there was no way to call for service. As for the food, quality was a little below average to be honest considering this hotel is fairly new and presents as a 5 star establishment. Very minimal vegetarian options if this relates to you otherwise the variety was ok between the different restaurants and buffet. The plus side is that this hotel is attached to the airport which is very convenient and easy to get to once you get off the plane. I would recommend not getting the shuttle service as it is misleading and you are not being shuttled anywhere however if you want peace of mind getting through passport control and the visa on arrival process then you may want to pay for this service. Other than a few other nit picky things, as mentioned, the stay overall was good."

"Viaje Hotel should not be listed on Expedia. The property shown in the photos does not resemble the reality at all. What appears online looks like a concept in someone’s head because what exists in reality is an unsafe, poorly maintained building that is closer to an abandoned structure than a functioning hotel. The elevator is unreliable, and the stairwell (five flights) is unsanitary with the smell of urine, visible feces, and severely damaged flooring. The room was a tiny box with unfinished walls, poor ventilation that made it difficult to breathe, no balcony as advertised, and windows that provided no sound insulation from constant outside noise. The breakfast area was equally unacceptable, with flies everywhere and food conditions that did not appear sanitary enough to eat. In more than 20+ years of travel, this is one of the worst accommodations I have ever encountered. Properties with conditions like this should not be listed on a platform travelers trust. Expedia must implement stronger vetting and on-site verification before promoting accommodations that put guests’ health, safety, and trust at risk."

"The room was terrific and cleaned twice a day. The front desk made my 60th birthday very special with a room upgrade, gifts, flowers, and cake. We added on the buffet which was excellent and filling. We also added the club lounge access which was very satisfying to come back to after a long day in Cairo. The staff could not be any nicer and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would come back for sure."
