I enjoyed the lovely facility & the gal who checked us in was friendly, understanding and helpful. She gave me a 12pm checkout time.
However, leaving was a different story and very surprising. When it was time to go, ~11:50 I asked for a few more mins b/c I was experiencing terrible pain from my severe L4L5 bruised vertebra. This gal was curt & dismissive, saying she would charge 1/2 day if we weren't out @12; I shouldn't have had the late check out; she could see if I was a Hilton member (I am), and a Gold or Diamond (I think those were the ones quoted). Told her I was a member, but not sure of my points. And my brother paid for the night, no idea if he has Hilton membership.
I told her I was looking for compassion and did not want the extra charge for my brother. She told me I needed to leave by 12. It felt like a cold sharp retort, I am sure magnified by the pain I was experiencing.
I found it ironic that there were not cleaning people on the floor, so it was not like we were holding anyone up. Also, I understand the principle; it's a good one. We were still late getting out, though we randomly threw our stuff in suitcases. It was just a lousy start to the holiday day off for me. Took a while to process and release.
I have stayed many times @Hilton. Love the Hampton Inn in Watertown SD. I have always experienced generosity, empathy and care. Here the first gal was terrific, professional and kind. The second gal was hurtful & unkind. Maybe she was having a bad day.
