I could not BELIEVE how terribly my room was equipped. I had a double queen in the 'lofts' section, which bore a remarkable resemblance to an industrial basement.....cement walls that had never been refinished. Exposed plumbing pipes, the works, Just not underground and with a window (that was pretty much on top of the El). The lighting was terrible. No closet. Not only that, nowhere to hang a dress....just a plumbing pipe with some hangers dangling off of it (and too close above a bench for anything other than a short jacket). Instead of a bath vanity, a tiny laundry sink for which the faucet was far too long, making it incredibly challenging to wash one's face. No counter above or around the sink, so nowhere to put one's toothbrush. Desk was tiny.
Promised Nespresso machine in the room was nowhere to be found.....apparently they break, and the hotel can't be bothered to replace them.
Entry doors to the lobby are very difficult to navigate, being narrow, not opening entirely, and one side being permanently locked despite fire codes. The staff of course cannot be bothered to hold the door for guests struggling through with suitcases, even in the pouring rain. And no, there is no awning or overhang to shield guests from the rain while struggling with said door.
And yet! Priced at the five-star tier.
