We have been to Deadwood many times and have always wanted to stay at the Franklin Hotel. I can now say that I have stayed at the Franklin and I can now say, I no longer have a desire to stay at the Franklin. The lobby, casino is very clean and modern. The hotel room was clean. We stayed in the Sir John Wedgwood room. I get it, you want to give the guest the historic experience but come on, upgrade the door locks, repair the plaster walls. I did not feel safe in the room because I felt that someone could aggressively hit the door and it would fly open. I could not believe the cracks that were in the walls. Three heaters, the historic radiator heater, I get it but 2 electric (one that worked) you have to replace, upgrade the heater, take the old one out. Then there was the shower. After sleeping in a smoking room, I wasn't asked if I preferred smoking, non smoking I wasn't even told that the room was smoking, is that ok, no, it was a smoking room. After sleeping in a smoking room, we wanted a nice warm shower, Hot shower would have been nice, but would have settled for a warm shower. Nope, not hot, not warm, it was cold and no pressure. The bed was comfortable.
