Our experience at State Game Lodge exceeded all of our expectations. It was as charming and historic as any of the National Park Lodges we have stayed in, but also came along with refreshed modern rooms, very accessible & good food, and most of all excellent service. The Lodge is a fantastic launching spot to enjoy all of the beauty and activities that Custer State Park and the rich Black Hills have to offer! Our 12 year old asked when we can come back, which is our true measurement of success.

State game Lodge has really neat history and we loved the beautiful location along the wildlife loop. It was quiet and secluded. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had nice options. Dinner would be nice if you want to have a fancier option but not great for families wanting something casual. The on-site artists were fun to watch and if you want to purchase beautiful South Dakota artwork, you'll have plenty to choose from! Towns are about a 30-minute drive through beautiful scenery but if you want easy access to shops and restaurants this may be a little far. We stayed in a "signature room" in the section adjacent to the main original building. It was very easy to walk to the main Lodge to grab morning coffee or enjoy the lounge or gift shop. Our room was comfortable and we enjoyed staying here!

Loved staying in Custer State Park. I will say if you have mobility issues the State Game Lodge is not for you. No elevators here. Just a lot of stairs to climb. The rooms are very nice and have been updated with new construction and decor. There is a restaurant on site if you choose to dine here. Close to the wildlife loop, needles highway and iron mountain road.

When we went to check in, I was told my card was declined through Expedia, so I had to pay at the hotel. I need to find out if I was charged twice?

Custer State Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the US - and the lodge was equally as charming - the rooms are nice but the dinner on the front porch was magical
