French Polynesia Hotel & Resort Travel Guide

There’s something about French Polynesia that inspires both romance and art. Newlyweds trek to this South Pacific island chain in search of the perfect honeymoon, artists like Paul Gauguin find muses hiding in the untamed scenery, and filmmakers use the volcanic landscape as a backdrop for their love-filled flicks. It’s as if Paris suddenly rebuilt itself in the middle of the Pacific Ocean; the climate may be different, but the romantic, artsy atmosphere feels surprisingly similar.

Of course, the best hotels in French Polynesia contribute to that ambience, and you’ll find a variety of boutique inns, international resorts, and beachfront bungalows scattered throughout the chain. If you’re searching for a classic getaway, try one of the cheap hotel deals in French Polynesia destinations like Tahiti. This iconic island is the area’s cultural center, and you’ll have access to Papeete’s city-centric sights, nearby waterfalls, and black-sand beaches.

In the mood for something a little more remote? Book a trip to the serene hideaway of Bora Bora. Situated to the northwest of Tahiti, this popular destination is celebrated for its tropical lagoon, palm-fringed peaks, and stunningly turquoise waters. Though the prices tend to be a touch higher here, it’s not difficult to track down discount rates or a cheap French Polynesia hotel deal at one of the properties perched along the shore.

Another top choice for relaxation-seekers is the Tuamotu island of Rangiroa. Known as the world’s second-largest atoll, this secluded spot is a fantastic place to dive, snorkel, and soak up the sun. You won’t see many coral reefs on the island, but it’s famous for its dolphin, ray, and turtle populations. Plus, the pink-sand beaches of Les Sables Roses are the very definition of paradisiacal.

Interested in seeing the world through Paul Gauguin’s eyes? Head to the Marquesas Islands for a special peek at the artist’s favorite location, Hiva Oa. This is one of those destinations you have to see to believe; ancient maraes sit among the wild foliage, tiki carvings pepper the landscape, and palm fronds dance in the balmy breeze. Plus, the area’s French Polynesia hotel deals put you in an ideal location for exploring the verdant hiking trails and local petroglyphs.

Wherever your journey takes you, you’ll discover a variety of French Polynesia hotel packages just waiting to help you fall head-over-heels for this island paradise. Book a few waterfront rooms in Moorea. Make reservations for an intimate bungalow in Bora Bora. No matter your traveling style, French Polynesia hotels have an option for you.

    "Got the view Matisse painted."
At first we were skeptical, but the place grew on us. If you want North American standards, go to the big hotels out of town. If you want an authentic Papeete experience stay here. Ask for an outside corner room for an amazing view of Moorea. Ignore the main street--you won't hear it after hours. Lobby is a breezeway; you have to turn on your room's air conditioner. Speaking French helps with the front desk staff but they try hard. Great location, if you are interested in the downtown. Easy walks to supermarkets. If you want golf and private beaches go to the big hotels. Lovely parks in three directions, shopping everywhere. If you want golf and private beaches, go to the big hotels instead. Acquaintances of ours who did so somewhat regretted not having our location here for at least part of the time on island.

    "A Warm Welcome Here"
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in an OWB with a lagoon view. Our bungalow was spacious with a good sized bedroom, lounge and bathroom. We loved the look-out into the lagoon from our deck. The restaurant/bar for lunch had a great menu and we enjoyed the food. We only had one mis-fire with the staff; we didn't hear back on a dinner and fishing trip we enquired about. Short walk to convenience store. Pick-ups provided by most restaurants for dinner. Were told this resort is on the side of the island that bears the brunt of the winds and we it was windy during our stay - probably the time of year.

    "Nice hotel with great view"
I stayed in an Ocean View room, which is cheaper than the overwater bungalows but offer a way better view of the lagoon ! Most of the staff was very friendly and smiling but one person (I don't know her name) who works at the restaurants (breakfast, lunch and dinner) clearly needs to find a new job appropriate for her lack of smile.

    "Best hotel on Moorea"
Front desk staff was very helpful answering our multiple inquiries during our stay. Our overwater bungalow was fantastic. Beautiful room and views of the island as well as tahiti in the distance. Loved our own stairs into the water for quick access to snorkeling. We saw lots of fish, eels, rays, an octopus and a black tip shark in the reefs close to our room. Amazing! We did the spa and found it very relaxing and tranquil. Good food at the restaurants with good service. Excursions offered were fun as well. I have two small complaints: the grounds could be better kept. There was a lot of dead grass/bare spots and many trees needed trimming. Seemed overgrown and unkept. The beachfront area was very rocky and would be nicer if there were more sand. It wasn't inviting at all. Finally, paddle boards, kayaks, etc, should be free and not rented by the hour or day. Just add $10-20 to the price of the room and include it. Other places do this and it's a better operating model. Le Meridien in Bora Bora does this and we found it to be much more to our liking. Sometimes I like to paddle in the morning and maybe again in the evening. It's so much better to just pick up the stuff when I want to use it ad drop it off when I'm done. Maybt I want to try something new. If it's free, I would be more willing to try it out. If it's not for me, no big deal, and I take it right back and try something else. I'd gladly just have that included in my room price.

"nice hotel, good location and grounds"
this was the middle of our 3 island trip (Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti.) We had a private hut with our own backyard and pool allowing us to be complete shut-ins during our honeymoon. The rooms and grounds were perfect as well as the staff who were all super friendly and helpful. The infinity pool is nice but has a few missing tiles. I imagine its hard to fix a pool in a resort where everyone uses it though. The beach was the most lacking part of the hotel as its only about 100 feet long and has over-water bungalows directly in front of it, ruining any good view that may exist there. The water is beautiful and heavy with coral, making some shallow water snorkeling difficult but giving you an opportunity to see a myriad of amazing sea-life. The location was great as it was walk-able to the main city area were you have plenty of restaurant and shopping choices. Also, the grill directly across the street is hands down the best food on the island!
