When I checked out this morning, I informed staff that my son had vomited in the bathroom. I cleaned it up with towels, but let them know housekeeping should be aware. I also mentioned that the toilet in our room was not flushing properly. Both of my kids had complained of stomach aches, and at first I thought it might have been something they ate in the dining room. But after thinking it through, I believe the pool was the more likely cause. They swam for about 45 minutes, and I did not. The pool area had a very strong chlorine smell—so strong it actually burned my throat just standing nearby. That kind of smell is usually not a sign of a clean pool, but of chloramines, which form when chlorine binds with contaminants. When those build up, especially indoors, they can irritate the air and cause symptoms like nausea and vomiting. One of my children (who has mild asthma) ended up vomiting the next morning, and the other had a stomach ache. I’m not writing this to be dramatic, but because it’s something worth looking into. The air quality in the pool area did not seem right, and it had a noticeable impact on my kids.
