"Santa Maria Maior was just as described and in a perfect location. We were minutes from the cable car and many wonderful restaurants and bars. Patricia greeted us and explained everything about the apartment and some tips regarding the area. She was delightful. Olivier checked to ensure everything went smoothly and wished us a farewell. As Americans living in Portugal I would recommend this apartment."

"Older hotel but in a great location in Funchal. Walkable area, shopping mall with grocery store within 2 minutes walking distance. Lots of restaurants nearby. The rooftop pool was well maintained although we didn’t have time to use it, the rooftop views were great. The breakfast buffet was good, although repetitive as all hotel breakfasts are. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Madeira."

"Really good hotel. Great value for money. The hotel is a lot quieter than the hotel next door and you're able to use the facilities at the other hotel, win win! We told the reception that it was my dad's 60th birthday and they made it extra special for him! Thank you so much to all the hotel staff, they were all great. "Lovely quiet boutique style hotel. Excellent breakfast, served on terrace with great views across Funchal. Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel 10/15 minutes walk from Old Town but on a steep hill. Walk back a bit challenging in the heat, although buses available nearby. No bar, (only honesty bar), and no pool. Good sized room, with added bonus of an equipped kitchen area. Room decor in need of some minor attention, (damp patch on wall, shower cubicle tired). Mini bar and coffee machine in room. Charge made for coffee pods, (and mini bar). Would really expect free tea and coffee making facilities in a hotel of this standard. Overall, a great place to stay and would definitely recommend."

"Definitely a 5 star experience. Everything is clean and well maintained. Well trained staff. The room is spacious and the bed and linens are top notch! the breakfast is superb! The only thing that needs updating is the bath/shower. The pressure is fantastic but the drain can't keep up and the temperature is hard to regulate. Restaurants: Brisa do Mar, excellent. I would skip Villa Cipriani, food was average."
