great location, i walked from the airport to the hotel

We were in town to attend the baseball games and opted for Hotel Z because of proximity to the field as well as price. The front desk staff were excellent, very efficient and very friendly. The room was small with a view of a wall. There wasn't a safe in the room or a fridge, even one to hold a can of soda. It was hard to regulate the air flow. The room was either freezing cold or super stuffy. Understandably, the windows only open a few inches for safety reasons. The bathroom was spacious although the shower drain was clogged. A quick call to the front desk and that situation was solved in a tick. The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were awful. There were two chairs in the room, an office chair and a very old almost padded chair. That chair was hard as a rock and needs to be replaced. The number one reason to suggest to others to stay here is the location. That gets 5 stars. 8 stars, if it was possible. There were dozens of restaurants to pick from and a 6 minute to the ballpark. That was a real bonus after the game to be able to just walk out and be back to the hotel in a matter of minutes. The LRT is about the same time with quick access to all areas of San Diego. The cost was reasonable and also helped in the decision to stay here but the location is the real plus.

The resort needs to be updated. The bathrooms were dated and one tiny shelf in the shower for toiletries. Housecleaning was horrible. Everytime they cleaned, they left an empty toilet paper roll and no extra rolls. One day they left no shower gel. And we ordered an extra blanket and pillows our first day and it took 3 calls and 10 hours to get them! They don’t answer the front desk phone and instead have an automated service or they text you. The prices for drinks at pool are $20 for any drink! Ridiculous. And crappy pool towels and cushions on lounge chairs. And their market only had tiny bottles of water for $3. We went to the gym to fill our water bottles. The restaurants are good, especially Tidal. Definitely not worth more than $250/night place. The bellmen are great.

My a/c went out on the last night. I called twice to have them send an engineer to repair. No one came. It was 80 degrees so I had the overhead fan on overnight. When I checked out the next day, I complained to them about the hot humid room and lack of follow up about repairing it, but the front desk just said “sorry” and handed me my receipt. There was also a lot of noise from next door and room above: voices and running footsteps.

This resort is in an amazing spot right next to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, with a convenience store and a restaurant just steps away. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay. My room was very clean and had a private patio with direct access to the pool area, which was a wonderful touch. I highly recommend spending time in the sauna followed by a soak in the Jacuzzi for maximum relaxation. Overall, it was a fantastic experience!
