“My family and I spent one night over our 4 day adventure in Portland. Our first time experiencing an eco-tourism type of accommodation. It was amazing. We stayed in the Fig Tree hut and all I can say is it is the best room of the house. They are undergoing some renovation but no disruption to our stay. The front desk staff, Tania was pleasant and accommodating with a late checkout. She even took it upon herself to verify if we wanted to place a dinner order to the kitchen prior to……

“A very nice place. Room was good as was expected. The entire staff was friendly enough including the manager. There was delightfully unexpected entertainment for each of the 2 nights spent, karaoke and movie nights. Food available during movie night was very good. I particularly enjoyed the light music throughout the day. The property is without an elevator and so I was able to manage my calorie level given that I was on the last floor. I absolutely enjoyed my visit.”

“The owners were so kind and helpful. This is THE hidden treasure of Kingston. Bob Marley beach is walking distance and the rooftop patio was breathtaking. The AC in the rooms was perfect to cool off after a hot day. This hotel also has a bar and the pool is cute and deep enough for the kids to jump in. The rooms are very traditional Jamaican style/decor and VERY clean. The wifi was strong and overall this was a fabulous likkle spot. Mi soon come back”

“The view from the property overlooking the sea was beautiful and phenomenal. The room space was sufficient and clean. What I didn’t like was the fact that to get there, the drive up to the house was very steep and if you don’t know how to handle the drive, it’s problematic. The second thing I didn’t like was that while the property boasted about having a pool, it was only when me and my family arrived we were informed that the pool wasn’t working due to not filtering properly. “Starlight Chalet is a very nice, well maintained classic building with beautiful landscaping. The view is wonderful, especially from upstairs and from the gazebo. The food was very good (but perhaps a bit expensive). The beds were comfortable and the room/bathroom was clean and well-maintained. There is no AC, but the temperature at 3500' was much cooler than in the adjacent lowlands so AC was not essential. We went on several birding excursions and found lots of good birds. If you go,……
