Sketchy Neighborhood; Host difficult
WORST EXPERIENCE. Host threatened to ruin my vrbo reputation if I wrote a review. I’ve a stellar vrbo rep, no issues w/hosts, & many PHOTOS to support below. Host is big corp, not indiv owner. Can’t speak to Host; contact only thru vrbo msg or text.
BEWARE: area around rental complex is SKETCHY. Few nice homes, but many dilapidated across/behind unit & upon approach. Trash heaped in vacant lots. Host said unit is safe bc it’s gated, but admitted pedestrian gate is “not locked ever” wh/allows anyone to walk up to ground-level door that leads directly into twin bedroom. Unit is newer but w/issues. BR window couldn’t lock. Towels still damp but rolled up for our use. 2 dbl bed frames were found broken & w/dirty sheets. Stained bed pillows. Checked other beds saw broken slats & prior repairs. Dirt, wrappers, used tissues, worn sock, 2-mo-old receipt found under beds. Waited hour after contacting Host about broken beds & safety concerns then went to hotel. Took 7 different attempts & 12 hours before Host responded. VRBO had trouble reaching Host. Host accused me of causing any damage; later said beds weren’t damaged. Claimed we were planning on doing something to unit bc we hesitated to sign House Rules. Host chastised us for leaving bc we did not feel safe. We almost agreed to partial refund conditioned on no review until Host threatened my reputation. Wondered why no reviews when I booked. Got no refund; only denials, accusations & threats. Can’t recommend Host or property.
