I booked this place, when i got there the security was very rude and said everyone hlleft for the day and they weren't expecting anyone. So therefore i was unable to spend the night. I contacted hotels.com and got disconnected and they never reached backed to me. So basically i got scammed. I meet another guest there said the booked using this site and they never got a room either.

I can't rate this property or my stay because unfortunately i did not stay at the facility. They had no reservation for me, although i made reservations through Expedia.
The place is closed and never spent a day in the hotel. I want a refund since I had to go find a resort than stay over in Ocho Rio.

Disliked: Amenities
We didn't realize the property was located in a less than desirable location. We walked outside and the desk clerk/manager came out and told us it wasn't safe to leave the property. She actually pointed out landmarks not to walk past; basically right outside the gate. There wasn't an elevator to access the 2nd floor. (My husband uses a cane.) We only had hot water for about 2 of the 7 days there. We even lost TV service for about a day & half and the internet was spotty at best. However, the rooms were clean and spacious, although we did have to use our bug/insect repellant to kills ants around the sink area. The property only provides breakfast so you have to go elsewhere for all other meals. Each trip into town was $25 USD using the hotel recommended driver. We were seeking a less "touristy" area, but still wanted certain things like hot water, safe and bug free area. We would not recommend or stay here again.
Maison très agréable ,chambre spacieuse et confortable
Le personnel est présent et toujours prêt à vous renseigner
Quartier calme un peu excentré de la ville
There was no hot water and there were bugs in the room. There was a lot of noise from their security system; and it was very loud so it disturbed our sleep. The breakfast was very bad, we got cold scrambled eggs. Also, the property is not situated at a convenient location, nothing nearby. We will not stay here again and will not recommend to others.
DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL. Greeted by an eerie silence, with below average staff. Very slow and inefficient. Imagine, walking in after a 3 hour drive along the potholed ridden A4 and finding NO WIFI and NO HOT WATER. Had to suffice with a cold shower. Reported the 2 issues to 2 separate hotel staff people. The kicker was lack of empathy or accountability from the hotel manager, Andre Davis. Blamed the internet service provider for lack of WiFi. I believe he has never taken a course in customer service - customers have a contract with the hotel, not the service provider. He committed to calling me back about credit for at least the lack of hot water facilities because I was only staying for a night and checked out. NO CALL or MESSAGE until the time of me writing this review. I will be disputing the charges because if I just wanted a bed to sleep in, I would have stayed in a cheaper hostel. NO SENSE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!! The breakfast wasn't ready until 8:45 am in spite of taking our order the previous night. The only silver lining was the easy access to A3 to get to Blue Hole and Dunn's River Falls & Park, firm bed and decent breakfast.
The property is nice and very close to Dunn river falls and blue hole and many other beautiful attractions. A young lady at the front desk named Alicia was extremely pleasant and welcomed us with warm arms and was very helpful and polite. The Jamaican breakfast is delicious and the young lady that served us was also very friendly and kind. I would recommend anyone to stay there.
For the price and location, this was a nice hotel! For security, there's a gate that closes at 10 PM with a guard present. Oddly they give you a wristband to wear to show the guard to be able to get in after hours. They had our booking made through Hotels.com, there was no issue with check-in, and every staff member we met was super nice!
There is breakfast included which is freshly prepared for you starting at 8:30 AM, either continental or Jamaican style. The continental breakfast is more western style, with an omelette, sausage, bacon, plantains, and pancakes or toast. The Jamaican breakfast consists of greens with salted fish, local bananas (not very sweet), a "dumpling" (sort of a dense dough ball), some yucca, and some plantains. We're glad we tried the Jamaican breakfast to get some local flavor, but we didn't end up liking the taste very much and opted for the continental on the second day.
The room that we got (room 101) was spacious and clean with tile floors throughout. The AC worked very well, but our chief complaint is that, like other reviews stated, there is simply not enough hot water. Even though we asked for the hot water to be turned on, we found we got about 1 minute of hot water, followed by only cold. So if hot showers are something you can't live without, this may be a place to avoid. The pillows provided were a bit uncomfortable, as they are decorative style, so kind of rough (and of questionable cleanliness).
Casa de Shalom is a wonderful place to spend your vacation or holiday I would recommend anyone to go and visit this place in Ocho Rios 5mins away from the town additional breakfast is delicious every day I have a different meal and room is nice with condition on television with cable,Wi-Fi, and free parking Not to Mention the staffs they are amazing.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Pros:
• Great free breakfast, all you can eat. Its Jamaican cuisine which I was unfamiliar with but I was very much pleased with it
• Nice, helpful, friendly staff
• Relatively clean rooms and shared areas
• My room was pretty massive in size for the price, came with a small kitchen
Cons:
• My first two nights I experienced cold or just barely warm water for showers. It appears that the water may be hotter during earlier periods of the day. Nonetheless, a guest should never have to experience cold showers, it’s really annoying.
• The staff either decided to not clean my room or forgot to clean it for two days
• No alarm clock in the room
• No hand held mirror or pull out mirror
• Room had an ironing board but I did not see an Iron
• The curb appeal of the hotel isn’t that great, potholes and things on the way leading up to it. Hotel looks likes its surrounded by a series of alley ways vs. actual streets
• The guest Wi-Fi is an absolute joke, it barely worked. To get the real Wi-Fi I had to ask to use the Wi-Fi that the staff uses. Pretty annoying.
• The water pressure in the shower was not great at all
• Electrical issues: experienced slow charging of electronics, some of my small hair appliances did not work. It’s possible that the outlets are outdated or doesn’t have enough volts or something.
• They also double charged me, once when I booked via my online travel agent and the other when I arrived at the hotel. They took forever to refund the money (like 4 weeks).
The staff were phenomenal, the building old but clean, the neighborhood sketchy but they had security. The home-cooked breakfast was huge, nourishing, and well-prepared.
Overall cleanliness and staff. Some Premium cable TV channels such as HBO, and MAX should be included in the costs.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
i LIKED IN THERE SO MUCH, IT IS SO TRANQUIL , AND CLEAN, TOO.
The staff is correct.
But, the Info about activities and around the neighborhood is almost Zero.
and the schedule for the from desk is very short to talk with them.
Didn’t like the location and no hot water in the room
The hotel is old with a musty scent .. the hotel staff was very friendly and they tried to make me ane family comfortable... nothing for my grandchildren to do .. no swimming pool !’ The moment I arrived I was very disappointed the owner refused to refund my money so I end up leaving she went to another hotel ..If u are looking for a cheap place to stay then this is the place
One of the best parts of my trip was relaxing at this property after a long day. It was in a quiet section of Ocho Rios. The staff were consummate professionals. Ms. Suzette went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and my needs were met. She is a concierge of the highest order. The rooms were decorated with a Jamaican flair. The bed was comfortable. Every day I came back housekeeping was on top of their game. There were lovely flowers in the room. Every morning I had an authentic Jamaican breakfast prepared. The bathroom was spotless! I highly recommend this property.
Super clean. Very nice facility. Amazing homemade breakfast. Cons : A/c in room frosted up. Very limited hot water. Overall. Would recommend this place. Great value. Short drive to beach.
Pousada bem confortável. Localização não é muito boa, mas para pernoitar é ok.
Quartos muito espaçosos e confortáveis. Atendimento ok. Café da manhã muito fraco, mas na Jamaica dificilmente encontrará algo muito bom.
2nd visit. Stayed in the same room. It was all good. Actually was more impressed with the service this trip. Particularly appreciated the breakfast and the friendly service there. We would stay again.
