"I recently stayed at this hotel and found that its location is one of its biggest strengths. It’s close to plenty of shops and restaurants, and the lively pub downstairs adds a lot of character and energy to the place. There were, however, a few areas where the experience didn’t quite meet expectations, and I hope this feedback is helpful for both management and future guests. Breakfast Issue Breakfast wasn’t available on Saturday morning at the time confirmed in my booking and at check‑in, due to the kitchen staff being unable to access the kitchen. The staff member on duty did their best and suggested I go to another restaurant and request a refund later. Unfortunately, when I spoke with the manager, the interaction felt dismissive, and the hotel only refunded the nominal breakfast cost rather than honouring the original arrangement. Clearer communication and a more guest‑focused approach would really improve this. Room Cleanliness The room carpet hadn’t been cleaned before my arrival and had a visible stain, and the room wasn’t serviced on the second day. Small details like this make a big difference to the overall stay. Room Condition A few maintenance issues stood out: mould around the bath, a broken shower fitting that made it difficult to wash comfortably, and a vanity mirror that couldn’t be adjusted. These are all fixable and would help elevate the guest experience. "

"Lovely place to stay. The lady who greeted was very friendly. Room was big and the bed was very comfortable. It took a while for room to heat up as I hadn’t realised all the thermostats were turned off. I had a bit of disturbed sleep as I stayed when it was very heavy rain/ windy so the windows were rattling (understandable as it’s an old building). I would recommend staying here as it’s very affordable. "

"James at the front desk saw that our bags were delivered to our room while we explored the city. Breakfast was fresh, plentiful and hot. Staff was very thoughtful. Did not see any ghosts, but still had an amazing stay. Rye is very sweet and the Mermaid Inn is very special. "

"5 stars goes to the staff at The Kings Head, they were all so kind, friendly and helpful. The food was also fab, good choices and the breakfast was great. "

"Very convenient location to rye town. Hotel was clean, staff were great…. Very friendly and helpful. Room was light and airy with comfy twin beds and plenty of tea, coffee, etc. Large on site free parking. Very good breakfast. We didn’t have a drink at the bar so can’t comment but it looked like it’d be well stocked."

"Such a welcoming place to stay, equipped with everything you need for short stays or longer stays, amazing location on the beach near lovely towns with wonderful walks. Had a couple of sunny days and a few windy and rainy ones but whether you are inside looking through the French windows or on the sand it’s equally charming "
