“This is a lovely little pub the grounds are well kept but unfortunately our bathroom was extremely damp and the smell was unbearable, we called reception and they came and sprayed in there but there was definitely an underlying issue going on as there was a big damp patch on the ceiling, there was also lots of cobwebs in the bedroom, the shower had very little power, the good points are the carpet was lovely and soft, the tv had a good signal, there was a mini fridge and tea & coffee making……
“It was short walk from the train station and like 50 minutes from London. The restaurant in the hotel is pretty good and the bus to colchester city center is pretty good.
The hotel was clean and check out was pretty easy as well.”

For the price paid for room only I would expect more! Poor lighting, no full length mirror and blind that were broken!

“There is no restraunt at this pub even though there is a nice picture of the dining area. Had the attic room and kept awake all night by birds in the loft.”
“The room was basic and very hot. No fan provided, two extra pillows provided but without covers. In addition, one side of bed broken, two beside lamps not working and hotel surrounding is unkempt. Overall, the hotel seems isolated, outside needs more attention and provide the required amenities!”

Access to the rooms, due to the nature of the historic building, is not the easiest (uneven floors, narrow corridors and stairs). The room was absolutely lovely though; the bed was comfortable with quality bedlinen and pillows.
The breakfast buffet was welcome - a small table and chair would have been welcome.
A bedside light would have been welcome too.
