"It is always a pleasure returning to Mauna Kea. With the recent renovations now complete, the hotel is more beautiful than ever and remains my daughter's favorite vacation destination. The breakfast buffet is outstanding, offering an excellent selection of food, and the staff is always warm, welcoming, and attentive. Waking up to the breathtaking view of the beach and the crystal clear ocean is an experience that is truly hard to find anywhere else. We had another wonderful stay and are already looking forward to returning next summer."

"The beach is the best. Just about all negative aspects of the property are measured against the gorgeous water and wonderful beach. The room was a bit dated. Carpet looked tired, small roaches in bathroom sink area. The fat foam pillows are uncomfortable. They also put us in a room for disabled individuals but we were too tired to argue after three flights and a long rental drive at that point. The buffet is very good and staff are excellent. We don’t spend a lot of time in the room so no big deal in the room critique. BUT at 1k per day for a suite, it’s worth mentioning the rooms look tired."

The hosts were thoughtful and welcoming, and they even provided yogurt and fresh fruit for us in the morning, which was such a nice touch. We truly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. 'My Favorite Place on Earth'

'My Favorite Place on Earth'

10/10 Excellent
"My Favorite Place on earth is an idyllic spot for two people. The views are stunning, the sound of waves lulling you to sleep are peaceful, and waking up to a small, but well appointed kitchen to cook breakfast before sightseeing is a plus. Our stay was lovely and a great blend of restful and active days. Our favorite was driving less than 2 miles north to snorkel at Hapuna Beach where there is an abundance of colorful fish to see. We also loved seeing the turtles on the reef right behind the house. We spent most of our time at the house on the lanai watching the waves. There is no air conditioning, but the trade winds kept us comfortable for all but two afternoons. Sleeping with the fans on and the windows open was a must for us and kept us quite comfortable. We would definitely come back to what is now our favorite place on earth and happily recommend it to anyone considering a Big Island vacation."
