Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier. The park itself has an interesting history. It is about 6 acres in size, includes the Tomb, a fountain, benches and several history informational markers. There is a sycamore 'Moon Tree' growing in one of the corners. Planted in 1975, from a seed that was carried around the moon on the Apollo 14 mission. The park was a burial ground from the early 18th century to after the Revolutionary War. In the early 1800's, as the neighborhoods around the became more developed, the land was used more as a park and started to get cleaned up. Now, it's a pleasant way sit and have a break while seeing the sights.

You'll soon discover why this Center City recreation and green space is popular with travelers. If you're looking for other things to keep you busy, Liberty Bell Center, Independence Hall, and University of Pennsylvania are in the area as well. They won't take long to get to from Washington Square Park.
