(745 reviews) I recently stayed at Hotel El Carmen and overall had a really good experience. The staff honestly made the whole trip—they were so friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything. The room was very clean and comfortable, which I appreciated. At one point the showerhead broke, but they came and fixed it right away with no hassle, so everything stayed smooth. One of my favorite parts was the view—the volcano was absolutely beautiful, and we could even see smoke coming from it. That alone made the stay feel special. The food was a bit hit or miss. Breakfast was great and dessert was definitely a highlight, but dinner wasn’t my favorite. The drinks also weren’t very strong, which was a little disappointing. That said, the staff really made this place stand out for me. Their energy and hospitality were the best part of the whole experience, and I’d still come back because of that. (737 reviews) I stayed at Hotel Atitlán, and honestly, it was just gorgeous. The views of the three volcanoes were absolutely breathtaking, and the gardens felt like this magical, winding maze. My room had this antique charm, and from the balcony, we could see the whole garden—it was so peaceful. The pool was lovely, and one of the highlights was a private boat tour we arranged. We visited islands where we learned about coffee, honey, and chocolate—so fascinating. Then we went to another island for zip-lining, with an incredible view at the top. We also took a canoe out on the lake, which was really calming. The breakfast buffet was amazing—so many options, and everything tasted fresh. The staff was nice, but I didn’t feel like they were quite as attentive as at the first hotel. They were still responsive, especially through WhatsApp, but when we had an issue with the shower water turning brown after a rain, they didn’t come right away. They just told us to run the water, but didn’t really explain what was happening. My friend did shower, but by the time the staff checked, the water was already clear. Even with that hiccup, the natural beauty and unique experiences made it unforgettable, and I’d still come back just for the scenery.
