I'm not sure how we got so lucky, but landed at this Arroyo Secco gem at an incredibly beautiful time of year. The leaves were changing color, the acequia was running in the front yard and the historic apple orchard was full of ripe apples and pears.
My teenager loved meeting our hostess, Bernice, to feed the chickens and we were able to enjoy watching the donkeys, sheep, alpaca and yaks out on the fields on the property.
We spent several lovely afternoons sitting in the rocking chairs on the wide wooden deck outside the entrance to the small casita.
This is a smaller space that accommodated 2 beautifully. Bernice provides heaters to help stay warm (this is a recently renovated historic space). The kitchen has full-size appliances and basic cooking supplies. The floors slope and are a wonderful reminder of the history of the home.
We will return to enjoy this historic ranch and space in a beautiful little town just north of Taos.
