The room was nice. Very friendly person checking in. I kind of despise the service charge which comes out of your bank unless you say you don’t want to pay it. We didn’t wish for our room cleaning when we were there so our only interactions were check in and check out. I asked if I could reduce the amount to £10 - the girl didn’t seem to happy but credit to the other (maybe senior) member of staff who said of course and also appeared very grateful. Would be better system to have a card machine purely for tips that they have in some coffee shops where on checkout people are free to type in an amount and tap their card. It feels nicer to give from free will.

Popular places to visit

Pike O' Stickle is the site of a Stone Age axe factory. Archaeologists have found discarded axe heads strewn on the scree which descends into the valley below. A kind of prehistoric rubbish dump for axe makers. Years ago people used the scree as a quick descent route to the valley floor. It's very much frowned upon nowadays and the scree is much depleted. I wonder how Stone Age man returned to the valley without walking boots to keep dry and safe.
