A Strong Scent of Neglect
First, the pros: the location is a definite plus. It’s close to downtown in a safe, quiet neighborhood. The host reached out before my stay, which I appreciated. That said, the cons were hard to overlook. The overwhelming smell of urine hits you immediately upon entry. It’s deeply embedded, likely from long-term neglect, and couldn’t be masked even after I bought multiple air fresheners. The home is much older than the surrounding renovated properties, which wouldn’t be an issue if it had been well-maintained. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case. Everything feels worn and dingy and has a visible layer of dust and grime. The couch is uncomfortable and literally held together with tape. The floors had hair and dust bunnies in the corners, and the washer, dryer, and shower were dirty and smelled of mildew. The master bathroom tub is next to a fully exposed window, offering no privacy and a direct view of trash piled in the yard. The “dog-friendly” backyard was unsafe and littered with scrap wood and metal pieces. Accessing the home was also a challenge, as the streets are narrow and parked cars directly across from the entry gate made pulling in and out of the driveway nearly impossible.I didn’t contact the host, as the issues felt far beyond a quick fix. The odor alone likely requires a full flooring replacement. With a professional deep clean, essential maintenance, and safety updates, the property could have potential. But in its current condition, I can’t recommend it.
