To room had poor lighting and did not have a safe, a phone or a trash can in the bathroom. The fan on the heater could not be turned off and was running continuously; the maintenance person had to come each night to switch off power to the heater and then come back in the morning to turn the power back on. When I pay close to $400/night, I expect better.

I am surprised by the high ratings of this place. I would NOT stay here again. There is a difference between historic charm and poorly maintained. The stairs to our room were steep (historic charm). The bathroom was absolutely tiny and not clean; rust and grit everywhere. The curtains did not black out the light from the street and the electric plugs did not charge our phone after being on the charger all night. The worse part was the bed; it was bouncy. If you are use to a foam mattress this is awful. I choose this hotel a landing pad after we got in from the airport and before our drive up the coast the next day. I knew it was a budget hotel compare to others in the area, but the pictures showed historic charm and the reviews were good for a budget hotel. Wrong! The absolute worst night of sleep! We woke up exhausted; everytime once of us turned over the movement would radiate throughout the full bed. We barely got 3 hrs of sleep. I would rather stay at chain hotel next time. Pros: it was walking distance to Tandem Bakery and Bramhall Pub and they have an offsite parking lot. The staff was nice enough and the check-in check-out process was a breeze.
