Trenton, the state capital, is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the southwest of Jersey City, while New York is 4 miles (6 kilometers) to the east.
On a fine day, pack a picnic and see some of the pleasant parks of the area. Arlington Park and the Lincoln Park are ideal parklands for nature lovers. Jersey City is blessed with numerous parks and gardens; also try Hamilton Park and the lovely Lafayette Park.

While vacationing in the Jersey City area, be sure to see its historic buildings and places for insights into the area’s rich and colourful history. Holland Tunnel and Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal are two of the area’s most visited heritage sites. If time allows, check out Hudson and Manhattan Railroad Powerhouse and Justice William Brennan Courthouse.
If you enjoy history, set aside some time to explore the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and the Jersey City Museum, two of the most popular museums in the Jersey City area. Examine the displays, try the hands-on exhibits or just enjoy the peaceful spaces.
Get away from the noisy streets by visiting the area’s protected reserves, such as Liberty State Park or Riverbend Wetlands Preserve. These biological areas are delightful places for families to check out the scenery.
Journal Square is one of the most iconic public gathering places in Jersey City. Find a bench and spend a hour watching the passing parade before exploring the surrounding architecture.
There’s absolutely no excuse to neglect your swing when staying in Jersey City; visit Liberty National Golf Club, home to the finest fairways and friendliest clubhouse in the area. Tee off down the excellent fairways, and try to beat the course average, then enjoy a few laughs with local and visiting golf nuts in the clubhouse bar.
