All staff are incredibly pleasant/friendly. Rooms very clean and turn down service available. There are several resident buildings with access to a nearby pool of six available. Lazy river flows very slowly so more of a moving float. Swim up rooms available and swim up bars. Many bars on property. 7 awesome restaurants, great breakfast buffet. Room service all day. Full bar in each room. Entertainment on site. Download the Excellence app to keep up to date for activities. Great resort!

This property is hands down the best 5 star resort in that area. My husband and i first stayed at the property nearly 20 years ago and was so impressed with how it has elevated beyond anything we could imagine. Beautiful property, the most attentive staff, the nicest rooms, fully stocked fridge and liquor cabinet, great restaurants, activities and the list goes on and on. Would recommend this property so is looking for a memorable stay.

We had an amazing stay at Excellence Riviera Cancun and would love to come back one day.
Staff: the staff at Excellence were amazing. Everyone was friendly, eager to assist, and very good at what they did. From the activity coordinators to the restaurant & bar staff to housekeeping, everyone was amazing.
Pools: the resort has many pools, each awesome and catering to whatever you're looking for. A large main pool for fun and socializing. A lazy river for drifting peacefully on a mat. A few quiet pools for slowly wading.
Restaurants: so many restaurants, so many options, and such great foods. Not everything was a complete win, but there wasn't anything we disliked.
Rooms: we LOVED our room. Comfy, spacious, and can't beat that large rainfall shower.
Amenities: one thing we were really looking for (and Excellence delivered on) was a fun activities schedule. They have a large variety of activities offered from morning (yoga) until late at night (DJ parties) with some really unique & enjoyable evening shows (circus, burlesque, all kinds of concerts).
The only downside I can list is that if a staff member was not immediately able to help get you what you needed/solve your problem it often fell between the cracks. Example: we asked for a different kind of rum in our room, and staff said they had to ask someone else for help. It took 5 tried (and a unique intervention) to get it done. We didn't get the feeling staff didn't care, just that their handoff system wasn't the best.

Everything about this resort and the staff was phenomenal. The beach isn’t ideal due to the seaweed situation but they work SO hard to keep it clean and useable. We absolutely loved our stay.

Visited to celebrate our anniversary and left thoroughly underwhelmed. The property is old and carries a persistent musty smell throughout. Our room had visible molds on the white curtains, closet were very musty, room was persistently humid, with slippery floors and an air conditioning unit that simply didn’t work.
Mind you we actually booked Excellence Exclusive Club, which I’d strongly advise against. The only real difference is access to one additional restaurant and bar. The exclusive pool is ironically worse than the main pool, and there’s no pool bar — which defeats the purpose entirely.
The beach was poorly maintained and had an unpleasant odor that made it difficult to enjoy. A real shame for a beach resort. Also we there were vendors who were trying to sell stuffs at the beach.
Food across the property was mediocre at best — I’d rate most dining options 4 to 5 out of 10. The one exception was Spice Asian Cuisine, which was genuinely good and deserves an 8/10.
We specifically mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary. The “special treatment” amounted to a banner on the door, two roses, and a card at dinner. No personal touch, no effort — just a token gesture.
The staff were friendly, and that’s the nicest thing I can say.
We came here to try something different. We won’t be coming back

We had an amazing stay at this resort and truly enjoyed every moment. The food was excellent, the restaurants were great, and everything was kept spotless. The staff was outstanding—always attentive, friendly, and ready to take care of any request. The pool area was beautiful, and we especially loved the lazy river. Overall, it’s a very luxurious and relaxing place, and we would be more than happy to return again.

I have been here several times now. Here’s what sets excellence apart from other resorts: wide range of quality, restaurants, including Indian and Teppanyaki; high quality alcohol included, including 1921 tequila cream that is hard to find outside of Mexico; two story rooftop suite is fantastic; Excellence Club services (if you choose a room in that section) are very good. New reservations needed for restaurants, and all of them are included. The beach is large and sandy, not rocky. There’s a lazy river as well.

Loved the staff, cocktail making on the beach, bingo and water aerobics were my favourite and watching volleyball was fun. Food was excellent, only disappointed once. Evening entertainment always entertained! They will make any drink for you, you can ask to order off the menu. The seaweed was an issue, but the resort is so wonderful we didn't miss the beach that much. Mark, Fernanda, Vanessa and "SoChill" all went out of their way to make our trip wonderful.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff was excellent, and the food was good/very good. There were a lot of options for food. There were different options for pools, e.g. active pool area with music and swim-up bar near the beach and quieter options with poolside service near the back of the property. We also used the gym, which was small but nice and clean. The room was spacious and nice; you could see some wear on the property, but nothing to complain about. The staff works hard to maintain the property, and it is very clean. We had one of the ground floor, swim-up rooms, which we really enjoyed. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. Definitely recommend!

The lazy river was wonderful. Would recommend to bring your own small floats as the ones that are provided can be hard to come by. Service was excellent. Didn’t have a bad meal the entire visit. Would definitely go back.
